Richard Plyler Obituary

Richard Drennon Plyler LANCASTER - Mr. Richard Drennon Plyler, age 73, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away at his home on October 27, 2017 where he was surrounded by his family. Mr. Plyler is survived by his wife, Caroline Collins; son, Scott (Michaele) Plyler of Murrells Inlet; daughter, Lindsay (Casey) McMackin of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Hunter Hammond, Landon Hammond and Marshall Plyler; brother, Tony (Millie) Plyler; sister, JoAnn (John) Plexico; and nieces and nephews. Richard will be lovingly missed by Caroline's daughters, Liza (Gene Moses) Morris and Christine (Mike) Galano; and four grandchildren, Connor Galano, Megan Galano, Sam Moses and Ailin Jules Moses. Mr. Plyler was born in Lancaster, SC, on February 28, 1944, son of the late Drennon and Nell Hunter Plyler. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. He furthered his education through numerous banking schools and seminars including the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University and Senior Bank Officers School at Harvard University. After graduation, Mr. Plyler began a lifelong career in banking and finance where he impacted many lives in the community. He served as Senior Vice-President at The Bank of Lancaster for sixteen years. He then continued as Vice-President of First National Bank in Lancaster and then as City Executive of South Carolina National Bank. In 1988, he began a new chapter in his career as he began serving as Vice-President of Branch Operations of Founders Federal Credit Union. He then served as Senior Vice-President until his retirement in December 2000. Mr. Plyler served this community in many capacities including the Board of the Lancaster County Economic Development, Lancaster Chamber of Commerce, Springs Memorial Hospital, Chairman of the Board of the Lancaster County Gas Authority, and was a charter member of the Lancaster Breakfast Rotary. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. Mr. Plyler's life was built around his family and dear friends. His greatest loves were his children, grandchildren and his wife. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, traveling with Caroline, attending sports events with friends and being on the Board of Friday Nite Football. He was an avid baseball fan, loved his New York Yankees and Micky Mantle, and was a devoted Gamecock fan. He loved collecting sports memorabilia and was quick to share treasures and collectors' items with others. Mr. Plyler will be lovingly remembered by all that knew him for his compassion, quick smile, positive outlook and his faith. The Celebration of Richard's life will be 3:00 pm Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Second Baptist Church by Dr. Brian Saxon. Burial will be private. The family invites you to the church fellowship hall and they will return and visit with family and friends. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 1426 Great Falls Hwy, Lancaster, SC 29720 or Riverview Hospice and Palliative Care, 1393 Celanese Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732-1722. To Richard's Family: We have just now learned of Richard's passing and are saddened. We have many good "Bank of Lancaster" memories with Richard over the years -- including Senior Bank School at Harvard and other special trips. He was an excellent banker and a loyal friend and he will be missed by so many.
