Michael Edward Sexton passed at home July 15, 2022, in his 80th year surrounded in love.
Originally from southern Ohio, Mike went on to graduate from high school in Cleveland. After high school, he joined the Army, honorably serving in Ft. Monmouth, N.J. During this time he met his lifelong sweetheart, Kathleen Herman of Irvington, N.J. Michael then served the Army in Korea in the Signal Corps, reaching the rank of SP5 E5. After being honorably discharged, he married Kathie and lived in New Jersey, where they raised three children, Karen Sexton Hamilton, Marilyn (Sexton) Federico and Timothy Sexton.
While in New Jersey, he was very active in the Hillside community for more than 40 years. He was also very active in his children's lives coaching both girls' softball and boys' Little League. He became president of the Hillside Little League and umpired the Connie Mack league. He also instructed CCD at St. Catherine's Church in Elizabeth. He was an active member and president of the Hillside Jaycees.
Mike was the president of Continental Connector & Gentape Corp. in Bloomfield, N.J., having risen through the ranks over three decades. He retired at age 62 and during his retirement, he traveled extensively domestically and internationally, visiting 19 countries. He was a member of the Union County AARP travel club. Shortly after returning from a trip from Australia, Mike and Kathie found their dream home in NEPA. He continued to travel with the Hamlin Senior Center and enjoyed time spent with the Covington Seniors. He was an active member in the North Pocono Minisink Lions. He loved the outdoors and was president of the OWLS committee (outdoor, wildlife, lake).
Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family and their achievements. He was a dedicated and loving husband for 57 years and raised his children to value the kindness he demonstrated daily. His family grew in love to include David Hamilton, husband of Karen and their three children, Jonathan (spouse Sabrina), Liam and Grace and great-granddaughter, Nora, and Wayne Federico, husband of Marilyn and their two children, Isabella and Christine.
Mike was a warrior, having battled cancer many years. Our thanks go out to Dr. Kishori Veerabhadrappa of Hematology Oncology and Maria B., his nurse with Sacred Heart Hospice.
We will celebrate Mike's life with a Mass at St. Rita's Church, 512 Main St., Gouldsboro, on Friday, July 22, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in his memory.
