Gaspare Philip "Phil" Picone

1935 - 2023

PICONE, Gaspare Philip "Phil", of Henrico, Va., passed away on April 17, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Robert Picone (Tracy); daughter, Dr. Carmela Picone (Charles); eight grandchildren; and stepdaughter, Molly Hames and her two children. Also surviving are his cousin, Concetta LoBello (Fred); and daughter, Josie. He was predeceased by his parents, Millie and Philip Picone; his son, Joseph Picone; and his cousin and lifelong best friend, James Manna. Phil was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on October 11, 1935. He joined the Army as a Private and retired as a Lt. Colonel in the Army Medical Corps. After completing 23 years of service to his country, he devoted his time to his faith, joining the Knights of Columbus Council #9953 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Phil served as Grand Knight in 2009 to 2010, and remained active in the Knights through the remainder of his days. A memorial service will be held at Woody Funeral Home-Parham on May 9 at 5 p.m., with reception to follow. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
