DUPONT — John P. "Jack" Ermel, 83, of Dupont, passed away at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021. He was born in Duryea on Jan. 31, 1938 and was the son of the late Vincent and Anna (Martin) Ermel.
Jack was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, Old Forge. He was a 1955 graduate of Duryea High School and then joined the U.S. Air Force. Jack worked as a machinist for many years at the Consolidated Cigar Factory and then for Parodi Cigar. He then retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot after 20 years of employment.
Jack loved to golf, and was active in several area golf leagues and travel leagues. He enjoyed country line dancing events at the Dupont Hose Co. and the Dupont VFW. He volunteered his time to help out with the many events that were conducted at both the Dupont Hose Co. and the Dupont VFW. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Julie (Bekanich) Ermel who passed away in 1990, and also his siblings, Vincent "Bob" Ermel, Bernie Ermel and his sister Marion Kouzan.
Jack is survived by his daughter Jacqueline George and her husband David, of Severn, Md.; his grandchildren Kevin and Ryan George; and his sister Ann Ryzner, of Moosic.
Celebration of life services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Dupont Hose Company 308 Main St. Dupont. The AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will conduct military honors for Jack at 1 p.m.
Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., the family of Jack Ermel and Gary Kaspriskie Catering at the Dupont Hose Company.
