Frank Carpinello Obituary

Carpinello, Frank J. II RENSSELAER Frank J. Carpinello II "Iceman", passed away suddenly, August 13, 2011 of heart disease. Frank was a loving, larger than life, cowboy free spirit that was a third generation member of Carpinello Ice Company. Named after his entrepre neurial patriot grandfather, Frank II was a straight shooter with an attention to detail, strong sense of patriotism, and great sense of humor. Interesting conversation about politics, military nostalgia, World War II rangers and ironic experiences of life brought him great joy and a huge collection of unique friends. His artistic skill and strength was admired as he used a chainsaw to freehand design and cut numerous ice carvings that were his passion and forte. He was a Charlie Daniels fan who loved riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. He was a born a natural marksman, excelling on the CBA riffle team and a strong gun enthusiast, who proudly belonged to the NRA. Frank was a devoted son of the late William and Norma Carpinello who was extremely saddened by the quick recent death of his best friend and father, Bill Sr. He was the twin brother to Willy Jr. and together they shared growing up in the 60's, fast cars, rock and roll and being destined to become icemen. Special relationship with his sisters, Linda and Lisa gave him many occasions to tease and share stories of family escapades. Our brother loved being in the ice business, being identified as a true iceman, living the heritage of a family in the 98 year legacy known as Carpinello Ice. His well recognized stature; wild humor and loyal heart will be tremendously missed as an urban legend and beloved friend to so many Capitol District customers. His greatest joy was sharing time with his daughter Jillian, being a father daughter ice team, and memories of always working the Columbia County Fair. His son Clayton gave him joy in sharing his hobby of rifles and hours spent shooting targets and laughing together meant the world to him. Survivors included daughter, Jillian Carpinello; and his granddaughters, Jocelyn and Jalianna; and his son, Clayton Carpinello; sister, Linda Carpinello-Dillenbeck R.T. (husband Jim), William A. Carpinello Jr., (wife Denise and Frank's only niece Alannah); sister, Lisa Leville (husband William). A Catholic funeral service will be held at the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Friends with motorcycles are asked to escort Frank to the cemetery following the service. All are welcome to attend. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205 or to the Stratton VA Hospital, 113 Holland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208 Att: Voluntary Service. Frank was an inspiration to all of us Icemen who hauled block ice from his big freezer house in Rensselaer , NY . he could drag three 300lb. blocks of ice behind him when he had his " creepers " on . His smile and sense of humor made a boring job fun , we all miss him to this day .

I played ball for the Carpinello Ice team years ago. I remember his grandfather, father and mother - all wonderful people. The last time I saw Frank was at my own sons funeral and he gave me comfort. I did not know of his passing or I would have been there to say goodbye. He will always be in my heart as I knew him since we were kids. And he was just that, larger than life....Barbara Caracci Kipp

"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself."
— George Bernard Shaw

I knew Frank as a young teenager growing up in Hampton Manor, and it was for certain that he "created" himself! He was funny, quick witted and talented in his own right. I know that that as kids, his closest friends loved him and I can see by reading these guest book messages that as an adult he continued his legacy. May he rest in peace. My heartfelt sympathy to Billy and family.
