Jacob Sher Obituary

Sher, Jacob (Jack) BOCA RATON, Fla. Jacob (Jack) Sher, age 91, of Boca Raton, died Sunday evening, January 11, 2009 at his residence. Jack was born in Albany, N.Y. where he resided for many years before moving to Fla. Jack was the owner of the former Hudson Scrap Iron and Metal Co. in Albany. He was a member of Albany City Lodge #540 Knights of Pythias in Albany, the Colonie Country Club, Albany Jewish Community Center, ABG of Albany and a former member of Temple Israel in Albany. He will be long remembered as a kind and generous man and for his many philanthropic efforts throughout the Albany Community. He was married to Molly LeVine Sher until her passing in 2006. Loving father of Richard (Michele) Sher of Swampscott, Mass., Gail (Peter) Weinstein of Bridgeport, Conn. and Karen Bass of New York City; cherished grandfather of Alexis Sher, Jordan Sher, Jamie Bass, Jeremy Bass, Andrea Weinstein and her husband Joseph Kresse and Brad Weinstein and his fiancee Jordana Reisman. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. Services at the Levine Memorial Chapel, 649 Washington Avenue, Albany, on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Temple Israel Cemetery in Guilderland, N.Y. I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of your dad. Nothing but fond memories for him as he always treated me like one of his own.

I will never forget the warmth cousin Jake had for our family. He loved my father and would go out of his way to visit him, even when he himself was sick. We have now lost a precious generation and a wonderful soul. Lets not lose each other.

I will never forget all those great bike rides Uncle Jack took me on. He would call and say he'll pick me up and there he was, on his bike, at our house, with a smile, and ready to tour all around Albany with me. Such great times together!

And then when my husband Nick joined the family, he welcomed him in like one of his own. "NICK" he would yell when he saw him in his later years, and give him, and all of us the greatest, warmest hugs. Unce Jack, we will miss you. XOXO

We will really miss Uncle Jack...so many good memories over the years. He was a very special person, loving, understanding and very much involved with family. We especially appreciate the time we were able to spend with him here in Florida. Jack and our mom Sally spent many enjoyable Sundays with us listening to music. He always announced his entrance with I WANT YOU!
