Thomas Ross Obituary
COHOES - Thomas J. Ross III, age 73, passed away in his home on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, after battling cancer. He spent his final days surrounded by his family and friends.
Thomas was born on May 20, 1950, to Myrtle Marlowe Ross and grew up in Waterford, N.Y. Thomas knew since he was a young boy that he wanted to be a police officer. He served on the Cohoes Police Department for 50 years and moved through the ranks from patrolman to Assistant Chief of Police. Thomas was in command of the City's detective bureau for over 30 years, a position he held proudly and with great honor, as his father-in-law, Lt. Clarence DeLude, did before him from the 1960s until his passing in 1975.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Pamela Ross; daughters, Amanda Ross-Carroll (Brian), Kimberly Stopera, Lisa Torncello; grandchildren, Claire Ross, Heather Stopera (Joe), Eric Remillard, Jr. (Cherish), Alexandria Wood (Jon), Darren Remillard (Elizabeth), Cortney Torncello, Ashley Skadra (Cody), Shauna Torncello, and Nicholas Torncello; as well as 16 beautiful and adoring great-grandchildren. Thomas was predeceased by his loving mother, Myrtle Marlowe Ross.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 8, at 12 p.m. at the United Church of Cohoes, 123 Mohawk St. Calling hours are Monday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the church, prior to services. Interment will be in Waterford Rural Cemetery Waterford.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice Foundation, Albany.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Community Hospice for their care and support as well to Thomas' long time primary care physician, Dr. Nita Parikh, who went above and beyond throughout this very difficult time.

I knew Tom from my days in the DAs office. Both Cohoes guys. Tom always looked out for me in that way. One of the finest detectives and finest human beings I've ever had the honor of working with. Even after he retired, he would give me encouraging words, a true professional to the end. Words can't do him justice. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to the Ross Family. Our careers paralleled each others over the years.
He was truly one of "the GOOD GUYs " He was an outstanding example of what a good police officer and police command officer should be. The citizens of not only Cohoes but of the entire Capital District were lucky to have a man of his devotion
to duty responsible for their safety and security for 50 years !! It was an honor to have worked with Tommy and to have known him as a professional and as a friend.
He will be sorely missed .May he RIP
