David Koch Obituary
David Koch, age 87, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Gardens of St. Francis. He was born on June 1, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA to Christian and Margaret (Markel) Koch. David was Clinical Pastoral Educator at the Samaritan Center for 30 years, retiring in 2016. He helped train many area chaplains and pastors over the years. David was the Associate Pastor of Collingwood Presbyterian Church and a member of Maumee Valley Presbytery. He enjoyed taking care of people and served as a volunteer Chaplain for the Toledo Fire Department station #7 and at various hospitals in the Toledo area.
David is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Beverly Koch; sons, Timothy Koch, Allen (Holly) Koch, and Stephen Koch; grandchildren, Sam J. Bell-Koch, Adrienne L. Bell-Koch, Josephine Koch, and Lucas F.C. Koch-Kreher; and his sisters, Lois Sieigle, and Alice Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents; and grandson, William Christian Bell-Koch.
Family and friends may visit the Freck Funeral Chapel, 1155 S. Wynn Rd in Oregon on Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the League of Women Voters.

I met David back in 1990 as a student in CPE and spent 3 years working with him for him as a CPE Resident in Lima. I learned so much from David and have fond memories of him. His influence led me to 25 years as a chaplain.

Bev, We were so saddened to hear of David's passing. He was a wonderful teacher, pastor, counselor, neighbor, and friend. We knew him from Collingwood and Mike lived next door for a bit. Dave preformed my granddaughter's wedding in my Mom´s backyard. So many wonderful memories. We love you, Bev. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Mike and Char Cuno Callinan.

Beverly and family, I have so many warm and powerful memories of times with David. He took me sailing once. I was not very good at it and while at the tiller, spent more time off the wind than on it. That he had invited me at all I regard as a high honor.
You should know that David was one of the most influential persons in the region. His passion for the art of being a pastor and chaplain, his deep investment in his students, firefighters, patients, and parishioners, and his heartfelt insights breathed grace into this world. I can only imagine the ways you experienced that firsthand in the family. Thank you for sharing him with the rest of us.
