Lilyan Schwartz Obituary
Lilyan Faye Schwartz, age 81, of Toledo, OH, passed away on February 18, 2018, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Lilyan was born in 1936 to Herman and Toy Sharfman. She graduated from Scott High School and attended Ohio State University until her marriage to Stanford Schwartz.
Lilyan, (aka Dirty Lil), loved her sports. Especially basketball, football, and baseball. Her favorite times were when the Ohio State Buckeyes beat Michigan in football. She prided herself in being a front runner in baseball, depending who was having a better season, the Detroit Tigers or the Cleveland Indians. Lilyan bowled in several leagues at Westland Lanes, and participated in city and state tournaments. She played canasta and mahjong for years. She loved bingo, playing up to 30 cards at a time. Her other love was gambling in Vegas, especially slots and black jack.
Lilyan loved to shop and eventually went to work in retail. She worked for Pharmor, Meijer's, and was assistant manager for Smiles. Then she went to work in different capacities at Big Lots for 19 years. She had her own group of customers calling weekly to ask "Mrs. Big Lots" if the truck came in.
Lilyan is survived by her daughter, Teri Schwartz, of Phoenix, AZ; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Leslie Schwartz of Long Island, NY; grandchildren, Meredith and Michael Cooklis, Bucks County, PA, Hannah Schwartz and fiancé Matthew Curry, Brooklyn, NY, Stefan Schwartz, Manhattan, NY, and Joshua Schwartz, Florida State University; great-granddaughters, Carolyn (CC) Cooklis and Vivian Cooklis. She is also survived by brother and sister-in-law, Mervin and Pamela Sharfman, Sylvania, OH; nephew, Eric Sharfman, Dublin, OH; niece, Leslie Sharfman, Washington D.C.; and great nephew, Max Sharfman, Dublin, OH.
A special thank you to the staff at Ridgewood Manor who provided loving care to her the past year, Toledo Clinic nephrology, Drs. Ravindran, Mehta and DeMiguel, Comfort Keepers, Davita Dialysis at Flower Hospital. A special thank you to Judy Smith and Sue Joseph.
Graveside services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. After the service family and friends are invited over to the home of Merv and Pam Sharfman, 2248 Big Hickory Run, Sylvania, OH.
