Carl Chakan Obituary

Carl Chakan, 92, of West Middlesex, Mercer County, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at LAS St. John Specialty Care Center, Mars. He was born June 16, 1921, in Sharon, son of the late Michael and Bessie Garrett Chakan. Carl was a millwright for AK Steel and Sawhill Tubular in Wheatland. He served in the Air Force during World War II, and was a member of the Sharon/Farrell American Legion. He was a member of Good Shepard Catholic Church in West Middlesex. He is survived by a son, Rodney "Rod" Chakan and his wife, Peg, of Cranberry Township; a daughter, Carla Johnson and her husband, Paul, of Tavernier, Fla.; a sister, Bernice Perman, of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Petrinjak Chakan; a son, Neal L. Chakan; a sister, Twila Heather; a brother, William Chakan; and a grandson. Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME INC., 238 Crowe Ave., Mars. Blessing services will follow at 8:30 p.m., in the funeral home, with Father Charles Bober, pastor of St. Kilian Church, officiating. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Sharon.
