Walter Hepler Obituary

Walter D. "Wad" Hepler, 68, of Parks Township, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, in the Kindred Hospital, Pittsburgh, from complications from a liver and kidney transplant. Born Feb. 1, 1943, in Vandergrift, he was the son of the late Donald "Pudge" and Iva Learn Hepler. A veteran of the Air Force, he had served during the Vietnam War. He had been employed by Premier Automation in Monroeville as an electrician, prior to retiring in 2004. A member of the NRA, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and family. Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Peg" Wolbert Hepler, of Parks Township; two sons, Richard "Rick" (Amy) Hepler, of Apollo, and James (Stephanie) Hepler, of Vandergrift; two daughters, Sandi (Ron) Harnish, of Apollo, and Krystal Hepler, of Parks Township; six grandchildren, Nichol Hepler, Anthony (Christi) Hepler, Alyssa Hepler, Carlee, Cassidy and Peyton Harnish; two brothers, Edward (Jean) Hepler, of Tennessee, and John (Helen) Hepler, of Ridgeway; and three sisters, Jean Godwin, of Parks Township, Lilla Belle (Edgar) Stephenson, of Vandergrift, and Nancy Johnston, of Delaware. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his late wife, Karen Summerville Hepler. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. Saturday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME INC., 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, with the Rev. Lee Rupert officiating.
