Myrna Doughty Obituary

Myrna Mae Doughty 92, succumbed to lung cancer on March 27, 2015, in Tucson. Myrna was born May 5, 1922 to Wid and Ethel Hyland at Kensal, N.D. She grew up in Jamestown with brothers, Wayne, Russell and Ronnie, and sisters, Opal, Beulah, Irene and Beverly. In 1935 the family left the 'dustbowl' and traveled west to Washington State. Myrna graduated from Yakima High School in 1940. She met Orville Doughty in The Dalles, OR, in 1940. They were married December 5, 1942 in Roswell, N.M. When Orville went off to war, Myrna returned to the Pacific Northwest and worked for the O.P.A. in Yakima, WA, until 1945. Son Linden was born in 1947 and son David in 1950. As an Air Force wife, she lived in several places in the U.S. and in Japan and England before finally settling in Tucson, AZ. Myrna was a particularly good bowler. She was active for many years with the Retired Officers' Wives Club of DMAFB. She was most proud of her work as a volunteer for 25 years with the American Red Cross and over 30 years with several Air Force Base Thrift Shops. Myrna is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Orville; son, Linden "Skip", of Tucson, and son, Dave, and daughter-in-law, Marge, of Bellingham, WA. Myrna can be remembered with donations to the American Red Cross or American Cancer Society. A Celebration of Myrna's life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY AND CEMETERY, 5801 East Grant St. Tucson, AZ.

We first met Myrna when she and Orv came to England in 1959/60. Since then she has been a marvellous friend from the time she looked after our children when our youngest was born until now. We were lucky to see her on a visit to Tucson last year and will miss her immensely. Our thoughts are with Orv and the family. Peter and Gwenda Vangucci

Myrna, you have been an inspiration to me as well as to many and made a difference in many lives with your steadfast devotion and loving care. I will miss you until I see you again. I hope you have as good pinochle competition in heaven as you did here on earth - certainly there is a special table for the pinochle queen! Love and comfort and blessings to your dear family, Orv, Skip, and Dave from your niece Julie Foster Backous.
