Susan Werych Obituary

Susan Jean Werych born February 23, 1943 beloved daughter of Hazel and Ozzie Werych passed away peacefully on December 16, 2023 in Williamsburg from numerous medical complications. Susan is survived by her brothers James and Mark, nieces Erika Cappelmann, Alissa Restivo, Leah Werych and nephew Kyle Werych and their families. Susan was born in Elm Grove Wisconsin attended Brookfield Central HS and graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a political science degree. Susan was immediately employed by the Social Security Administration in various managerial positions within the privacy disclosure department where she evaluated and revised regulations on personal information disclosure procedures. Susan enjoyed spending time with her extended family, longtime childhood friends and co-workers. She was everyone's "most gregarious" friend and confidant. In retirement Susan volunteered at Colonial Williamsburg as a tour guide in costume and at Habitat for Humanity, fondly known as "the book & music lady". She was a very talented artist painting watercolors of landscapes and nature. Additionally, Susan actually "raised-cared" for several species of butterflies. She also provided carrots to the bunnies in her yard, and coined this event as "carrots & cocktails" which became a daily routine even if the bunnies were not present. She provided so much to so many people and organizations and will be in our Hearts forever. Those who knew her for years or moments are feeling anguish and loss of Susan and her infinite wisdom and love. Memorial services and the celebration of life for Susan will be held in Wisconsin.

I met Susan at the ReStore when I went to visit my son, Jonathan, DIL, Jacqueeh, and grandson, JoJo. Susan was a very sweet lady and a new friend. I will remember her fondly. She will be missed. My condolences go out to her family.

Susan was a volunteer in the Licensing Department at Colonial Williamsburg where I worked and, although she was extremely detailed and organized with her projects, it seemed a free spirit within belied these more down to earth qualities. As a former acquaintance, I imagine her now as free as her beloved butterflies.

Sweet, sweetheart, sweetie pie! All of us (clericals) in RSI always used these adjectives to describe "Little Susan". Sue was so mature; very feisty, energetic, positive about everything. She was bubbly and strong at all times letting nothing or nobody get to her. She never turned you down if you needed someone to talk to. My heartfelt sympathy and deepest condolences to Susan´s entire family. Love Iris

My sweet friend Susie, what a surprise to see your lovely face again. We had our small great group of high school friends that spent that magical summer in Europe in 1959. The world was so different then. I also remember slumber parties in your Elm Grove gracious home. Plus your pet alligator in the bath tub. You have had a life well lived dear friend. Be at peace.

My husband and I were fortunate enough to have Susan as our neighbor for the last twenty one years. She became family to us and we loved her dearly. She loved our dogs like they were her own, and I can attest to the fact that she loved feeding the bunnies! In her last summer while she was in the hospital, I had the privilege of raising and releasing her butterflies and taking care of her plants that she so tenderly cared for. Our hearts are broken and we will miss her so very much. Our thoughts, prayers, and love to her family.

Words can't even describe how much I will miss my sweet, amazing, kind, thoughtful, talkative, fun, spunky, pretty, fashionable, and talented artist Aunt/Godmother Susan (aka Saint Susan)...I could go on forever about how special she was to so many. I always wished she lived closer so I could see her more, but I loved and will miss our several times-a-week phone calls on my way to work, just to chat and fill her in on everything that happened since our last call and hear about anything new with me, Alayna, Alex and Andy Dandy. She was a great listener and problem solver, and I loved getting her opinion on my life questions and dilemmas. She always had the right thing to say and would help guide me. She was my biggest cheerleader and gave me way too much credit that I had it all figured out without needing her guidance. I'm so glad I got to fly to visit her for one last visit in October.
We missed her so much this past Christmas. Christmas and life will never be as special without her. I will miss her visits staying in "her room" at my house, especially this past Christmas, but instead, she celebrated her favorite holiday in Heaven with her Mom and Dad and other loved ones who have passed before her. I am so glad I have so many pictures and memories to look back on.
