Donald Frey -- April 1934 to June 24, 2010 Barbara Frey -- October 1936 to April 17, 2010 "But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior for there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body." Philippians 3:20-21 NIV
After celebrating 51 years of marriage on Feb. 15, 2010, the Lord decided that their work on earth was complete and He called Barbara home on April 17, and Don home on June 24. Barbara was born in October 1936 in New York. She was a registered nurse and spent many years working at California Lutheran University in the student health center.
Barbara was known for her "calm amongst the storm" both at work and at home. Don was born in April 1934 in New York. He was a retired electronics engineer with Grumman. He was known for "getting things done right, on time and in a professional manner."
Don and Barbara met on New Year's Eve in 1955. A romance blossomed and on Feb. 15, 1959, they were married. Together Don and Barbara enjoyed dancing, gardening and their beloved King Charles Spaniel, Tippy. They were active members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for more than 40 years where Barbara enjoyed volunteering weekly. Don enjoyed a lifetime of woodworking, upholstery projects and fixing just about anything that needed repair.
Don and Barbara have four children, Donna Graham (Doug), Steven Frey, Sheree Schneider (Keith) and Jill Duncan (Wayne). They are also survived by nine grandchildren, Colin, Melissa, Emily, Karly, Tanner, Jenna, Quiana, Aubriel and Ivan, as well as four great-grandchildren, Aaron, Nina, Valentine and Violette.
A memorial service celebrating their life will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 West Avenida de los Arboles, Thousand Oaks. For those wishing to honor Don and Barbara's memory, donations may be sent to the church reference to "Donald and Barbara Frey Memorial Scholarship," Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 West Avenida de los Arboles, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. Grants from the scholarship fund will be given annually to a local student who is pursuing a degree in nursing or engineering.

Dear Donna, Steve, Sheree and Jill
It is with heavy heart that we send you all condolences on Don and Barbara's passing. Never could we have had dearer lifelong friends. Having known them since middle school and our teens they were always there for us in our life's journey -- during good times and bad, during marriages, births, anniversaries, travels, and quiet times. Their support and encouragement, their friendship, their laughter and jokes during all of our special occasions will be with us forever. May God be with you in the times ahead and know that your mother and dad will be there with you also.

We are saddened to hear Donald and Barbara have passed. We didn't know them very well, we were their neighbors on Woodstone St. (in the cul-de-sac). May they rest in peace.

Jill, et all,
When you sent the first email, as I recall, a day before your Dad passed away. I wanted to send Don a note of thank you but I was too late.
Your Dad was Church Council President in December 1977 when I interviewed for the church secretary position at Holy Trinity. I assumed that I was a "shoo in" since I had volunteered in the office (very small, at that time) while Nancy Anderson and then Linda Anderson was secretary. But the Personnel committee decided to hire another member since she had managed an company office, etc. One of the members of the Personnel Comm. said they would call me on the phone to let me know that they offered the position to Mariann instead of me. Your Dad did not think that was right and said that he would come to our home and give me the news. I really appreciated Don's concern for my feelings because quite frankly I was very disappointed and shocked that the job was not mine. The three of us (Richard was there, of course), sat and talked about HTLC and the changes that were about to happen. You see at the end of December 1977, Roger Anderson was leaving HTLC for the position of Assistant to the Bishop of the Synod. Seger was going to be HTLC's Interim Pastor.
About three weeks later (just before Christmas) your Dad came to visit again. This time to offer me the job. It seems that Mariann's husband was being transferred to another city and they would be moving right after New Year's. Of course I accepted and started that little 9 to Noon job that lasted until I retired June 30, 1993.
I was always grateful for Don's care and concern for my feelings. And also your Mom was a wonderful and faithful volunteer during my 15 plus years at HTLC. Barbara was one of our "Tempo Mail Ladies" among many other things.
Barbara and Don were good neighbors in Shadow Oaks and we were sad when they bought their new home in Wildwood. I think Don told us that the house on Warwick was getting older and he didn't want to do all the repairs. But Don of all people was the man to get repair work done and done RIGHT !!
The memory of your parents will live on in our hearts.
Thinking of all of you.... Jill, Donna, Sheree and Steve.
