Arthur Carlson SR.
Arthur Carlson, Sr., a beloved 80-year-old father and restauranteur, passed away on September 18, 2023, in Burke, VA. He was surrounded by loved ones as he peacefully transitioned from this world.
Born on December 26,1942, in Asheville, NC, Arthur Carlson, Sr. was always quick-witted and filled with kindness and passion. After attending private school in North Carolina, Art moved to the Washington, DC area, and pursued a career in commercial real estate. He went on to marry Beth Carlson and they had two sons, Erik and Artie, Jr. After leaving real estate, Art ventured into the restaurant business with his life partner, Peggy Fredricksen, where they co-owned CF Folks, CNF Catering and The Well Dressed Burrito. Together, they grew their successful businesses for 37 years, receiving the coveted America's Classic Award from the James Beard Foundation. All three businesses were beloved and favorites among DC locals and you could always count on Art for great stories filled with much laughter. As one article in the Washington Post stated, "Carlson, the ever-present host, is one of the last of a dying breed: a hands-on owner who schmoozes and teases his customers, often at the same time." Art was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, his partner, and the community. He touched the lives of many and left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered.
Arthur Carlson, Sr., was pre-deceased by his youngest son, Erik and is survived by his life partner, Peggy Fredricksen; son, Arthur, Jr and his wife, Kay; daughter, Carey and husband Donovan, and five grandchildren. He will be forever remembered for his kind heart, generosity, and the positive impact he made on the lives of those around him.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home located at 9902 Braddock Rd., Fairfax, VA to celebrate Art's life. Family and friends will gather to share stories, reminisce, and pay tribute to the incredible person he was.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Capital Area Food Bank in memory of Arthur Carlson, Sr.
