SUSAN ABRAHAMSON Obituary

SUSAN RAGLAND   LEWIS ABRAHAMSON (Age 79)
Of Keedysville, MD, and Lake Wales, FL, died May 24, 2015 surrounded by her beloved family following a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, James; three children, Jennifer Lewis Remole of Darien, CT, James Whittier Lewis, Jr. of Birmingham, AL, and Christopher Ragland Lewis of Brandon, FL; two step-children, Kelly Abrahamson Lewis and James Alan Abrahamson II of Providence, RI; and fifteen grandchildren. She was the daughter of Herbert Shelton Ragland and Margaret Seymour Bathgate Ragland of Richmond, VA. Her greatest accomplishment was the life she shared with her family, and she showered countless blessings upon them and everyone she encountered. An accomplished author, painter, traveler, and French teacher, Susan was a graduate of Collegiate School and Sweet Briar College. Susan excelled in her career as a fundraiser, public relations specialist, and producer, the most notable of which was her development and production of "The Victory of the Human Spirit" at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Under Susan's direction, and supported by countless American and international leaders, this five-year series of major national events celebrated the courage and determination of individuals who overcame significant tragedies and obstacles. She produced a similar program for Dr. Norman Vincent Peale for four years called "American Heroes." A memorial service honoring Susan's remarkable life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2015 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 209 West Main Street, Sharpsburg, MD, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, Susan asked for contributions to be made to the Childhelp Foundation, www.childhelp.org. Condolences, directions and more information available at www.potomaccremation.com
