To the Byrne Family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. May it give you comfort to know William is with the Lord now looking down with pride and joy at all of his family. On a personal note, I had heart surgery several years ago. Sr. Licia and Sr. Dede (of the Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts) sat with my wife during the surgery. Sr. Dede also brought her dad who had been a pioneer in heart surgery in the Northern Virginia area. When the operation was over and my surgeon came out to update my wife, he immediately recognized one of his mentors and teachers, Dr. William D. Bryne. I truly believe there was Divine intervention there. William Byrne may no longer walk among us on this earth; but through his exemplary life, he will live in all of our “hearts” forever. God Bless you all. Joseph, Betty, Angela & Anthony Alfano

We miss you Grandad. We were so lucky to have a grandfather who showed up at our sports games and school plays. You showed faith in our dreams and what we could accomplish. It was such a blessing to have you in our lives and we will strive to honor your memory.

My Uncle Bill will be remembered as often deep in thought but quick to give a smile, a man who loved his family and his profession and gave generously of spirit and deep faith. Uncle Bill had a great sense of humor, and has passed this on to his terrific kids. For a man that had so many kids of his own he never forgot your name and was always warm and friendly and happy to see you, in short he will be remembered as a lovely father, doctor and uncle. I am so sad for his family, but know he is in a peaceful place.

When I think of Bill Byrne, I think of his good friend, Tom Fulcher, at the same time. Both were superb surgeons, men of the "old school:" absolute integrity and solid work ethic. Both exuded good will to their fellow man; both shall be missed by all who knew them.
