my dear one, l will miss spending time with you..chats, baking, pamper time, cards, sewing, reading, painting, puzzles...always ready to help with my "projects"...our tea times...your wicked sense of humor kept me on my toes & l loved the laughter...a kiss to my forehead tickled my heart..as your thoughts drifted away, reminding you of your sweet children and music kept you connected...l am grateful to have met you and call you friend...

This amazing 101 yo English rose fell asleep this morning at 5am. Grandmom, thank you for the memories-a childhood filled with family, many chats over cups of tea-made properly, shopping, sleep overs, many days swimming in your pool, playing volleyball, croquet, catching fireflies and finding/collecting locust shells and putting them in margarine tubs in your yard, many mornings hearing your loud and obnoxious wake up call from the bottom of the steps, helping you in your tiny kitchen and dining room getting ready to host a holiday meal or even just spaghetti on Sunday after church, trips to Avalon, NJ, your attempt at skiing-more laughing than skiing, the smell of your home especially when cooking roast beef, Thanksgivings, Christmases, Easter dinners all squished around your large table in your small dining room or people passed out all over your living room taking naps with full bellies watching football games. Every weekend in the summer filled with picnics and pool parties for family, ball teams, church choir or Sunday school classes. You had a gift of hospitality. And though your amazing green thumb skipped over me in the genetics pool, I do and will forever appreciate beautiful flowers and the work it takes to cultivate them. There were many "Evelyn-isms"-like naming everyone in the family before finally calling me by milk because that´s what she wanted me to get out for her, to always having a tissue stuck up her sleeve, many sneezes at a time, always spilling something on the front of her shirt, her taste for nice things and pretty jewelry, having to repeat ourselves if we were on the side of her "bad ear", she always enjoyed music even if it was painful as a child sitting in the back seat listening to easy 101, and getting riled up about something-she could get very passionate about her opinions-and having grandpop talk her into reason. As her first grandchild-yes that makes me the oldest-I´m so blessed to have had her for my 54 years of life and I treasure the childhood she and my grandfather helped to create. Rest easy Grandmom! Our English Rose is down forever!
