Arthur Moreland O'Quinn, Jr., age 95, of Quincy, died Sunday, December 25, 2022, at 5:10 am in Bickford Cottage.
Arthur was born August 23, 1927, in Nashville, Arkansas, the son of Arthur Moreland and Nellie Belle Barker O'Quinn. He married Janet Gregory on June 1, 1951, in VanBuren, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2012.
Arthur graduated from Delight (AR) High School and the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Arthur served with the United States Army Corps of Engineers in postwar Germany, based in the Rhine Valley.
Using his G.I. Bill, Arthur enrolled in the University of Arkansas. He was a member of the Theta Tau fraternity. While in school, Art went on a blind date with Janet. They were married alongside their best friends who set them up.
After school, Art was employed by PENN-Baso Controls in Milwaukee, WI. Working in their lab, he developed the lint-free thermocouples for furnaces that were patented by the company. He was promoted as a regional marketing salesman for the East Coast, living in Philadelphia. In 1965, Art moved the family to St. Louis to be the Midwest representative. In 1972, Arthur bought an HVAC wholesale company, Crescent of Quincy.
Arthur was a member of the Elks Club. He was also involved in a number of service groups. Art was a Kiwanis Club member for over 50 years and served one term as their president. He loved to tell the corny jokes he heard at the meetings to his friends and family.
In addition to the Kiwanis Club, Art was a member of North Side Business Club, and the Friends of the Log Cabins, which was his true passion. He loved the history and the craftsmanship of the cabins. He helped to restore them and to tell stories of their history. Arthur also acted in a few plays at the Quincy Community Little Theatre.
Arthur was a man's man. Using his engineering mind, he could fix about anything, and he was a master builder. He even built additions to his own homes. Art liked to have fun, hosting St. Patrick's Day parties and dancing the night away with his wife, Janet.
Art and his wife also enjoyed traveling in the GMC RV Club, boating, playing golf, and attending car shows.
Arthur was a knowledgeable man, generous contributor, and a friend to everyone he met.
