Donald Bradshaw Obituary

BRADSHAW, Donald Lynn

Donald Lynn Bradshaw, of Whittier,
California passed away on August 27, 2012 at 83 years old. He was born on July 15, 1929 in Monterey Park, California, one of four children. He graduated from Mark Keppel High School in 1947. He went on to Pasadena City College where he ran track and played basketball. He met his future wife in spring of 1949 while attending PCC. In 1949, he transferred to University of California, Santa Barbara College working his way through school. He was a three-year letterman in basketball. His friendship with Beverly grew into a courtship while at Santa Barbara College. Don was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He graduated in Jan 1952. In March, he entered the Army and served for 2 years in Korea in cryptography and as a member of the Korean Military Advisory Group. When he returned from the Army, wedding bells would soon follow the long courtship.

He became a partner at Bradshaw Brothers Printing in 1952 with his twin brother, Ron. Don married his love, Beverly, in 1954. They lived in Alhambra for a short time then bought their first home in Whittier in 1956, where they raised their three sons. He was an avid tennis player and was active with his boys in Indian Guides, Boy Scouts and Little League. He enjoyed many family outings to Lake Arrowhead and the River. One of his most memorable vacations was hiking The Chilkoot Trail in Alaska with his family and the scouts in 1976. Throughout his life, Don was a role model to his sons as a coach, father and friend.

He retired in 1995 and focused on his true love, Beverly (and golf). He and Beverly traveled the world with family and friends. Later in life, Don became a Bridge Life Master, which proudly hangs nowhere. In addition to family and friends, Don loved college basketball and his annual PAC 12 tournaments, weekly golf, monthly FHCC golf smokers and his garden, which makes us all envious.

Don is lovingly missed by his wife of 58 years Beverly; his sons, Doug (and Stephanie), Craig (and Sandy), Rod (and Di); the grandchildren he adored Casey, Chase, Marcus and Kyle; brothers James and Ronald and their families; and loving family and friends. He is predeceased by his first child, Cindy, in 1964. A celebration of his life will be held at Hillcrest Congregational Church in La Habra Heights on Friday August 31, 2012 at noon. A reception will follow at the Bradshaw home. In lieu of flowers, contributions to either the Assistance League of Whittier or Friends of the Whittier Public Library will be greatly appreciated.
