It is wintery evening of 1980 on the road to Fujairah. Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman already gone by the windows of our cars. Finally, it is time for something wet, something cold, for easy, friendly talk. Some of us there were quite young, few had a lot more experience, all were full of hope for a better future. Andrzej Bobinski played the first fiddle. He went already through so many life’s upheavals that the time spent on the shores of Arabian Gulf was for him just a one short stop. It was one more step on his 40 years long trek from the beautiful surroundings of Kobryn in Wolhyn Land to the western shores of Atlantic. For him, that journey started on the very first day of a WW II, on the road to Warsaw. Like millions of Poles, from that day, his quest for freedom, work, place called home took him around the world, thousands of miles from his family nest. He was never permitted to go back to the places of his youth. From that momentous day through next 40 years, he fought constant battles with hard realities of the worst war of 20th century, of life under totalitarian regime of USSR in vasal state during Cold War and an immigrant in the West. His life was full of uncertainty what to expect in a day or two, in a month, or in a year. Like mythical Sisyphus three times he had to start from zero to build a new life in Paris, in London, and in Boston. Living between a rock and a hard place taught him to share his life wisdom with those around, wisely to invest in friendships and to “keep smiling”. No doubt his smile is etched in memory of those who shared with him rigors of team work, days of boredom and happy moments of celebrations. His birds eye view of human life and keen interest in details of any subject of human condition made him a valuable companion for other life travelers. We are missing his calm voice, his witty questions and most of all his sense of humor mixed with common sense.

Pawel, i worked with your father on the National library and cultural centre in Abu Dhabi from May 1978 until April 1981. He was the main man for TAC and I was their building services mechanical engineer. he was a gentleman and held the TAC site team together. Your mum and dadlived on the 5th floor while myself and my family lived on the 9th floor.I often wondered what happened to him. I could go on and on, but once again I am sorry for your loss

Andrzej was a special person for so many reasons. He was a kind and gentle man, he was a man of few words but thoughtful and genuine in everything he said to me. My time with him was to short but I am so grateful to have been able to share the precious moments I spent with him. I remember him most as a kind soul and loving to my friend Lisa, who could ask for anything else. May you Rest In Peace my friend. Carol

Andrzej was original and incomparable.

He was among the precious few, who, despite age differences, was always fun to be around.
We admired his original way with languages - he knew quite a few of them and could use them interchangeably in the same sentence, with precision, clarity and wit.
Each conversation with Andrzej was a mini-treat.
Whenever we had the pleasure of visiting one of their abodes and marvelling at the unforgettable interior designs, Andrzej and Lisa were always extremely hospitable and entertaining hosts and we counted the days until our next visit.
Andrzej was a very dear friend at a time when we needed a friend most on our first extended stay in America. We will miss him a lot.
Our sincere condolences go to his wife Lisa and his son Pawel.

First time I met Andrzej while skiing at Kasprowy Wierch, Poland - it happened about 70 years ago! He was there with his first wife, late Barbara. Later we were bumping into each other from time to time until we all landed in Abu Dhabi, UAE.Then most our free time was spent together either sunbathing and swimming or making trips into desert or having fun at any possible musical performance (rarity at that time in UAE).
Since then we were in contact also when he left the Emirates and moved into USA, visiting each other at at every possible ocassion.
I had the honour to actively participate in the ceremony of his marriage to Lisa.
We really enjoyed his company and his specific sense of humour (not everybody could follow that) which we believe helped him to override some difficult life obstacles.
Our thoughts are with Lisa at this difficult time.

We will miss Him vey much.....
