Smith, Hannah M. Joan (Kearney) of Needham, Dec. 21, 2013. Beloved mother of Eileen Smith Ewing of Needham and the late Kevin Martin Smith of Worcester. Cherished wife of the late John Patrick Smith of Whitestone, New York. Devoted grandmother of Edwin S. Ewing, III, of Needham. Loving aunt and great-aunt of nieces and nephews in the United States, Ireland, and England. A loyal friend to so many people. Mrs. Smith was born in Ballinvranig, Ballyduff, County Kerry, Ireland, in 1922. She spent her twenties working in London during World War II. It was there she met the man who would become her husband of 55 years. The couple emigrated to New York City, where they wed in 1954. Friends and neighbors in Queens, NY, loved them both dearly for many decades. Mrs. Smith moved to Needham in 2011 to join her daughter and grandson after the loss of her husband. Despite her advanced age, she never hesitated to journey to a new life. Funeral from the George F. Doherty and Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Ave., Needham, on Fri., Dec. 27th at 10:30 am.
