Bruce W. Toomey

JACOBUS Bruce W. Toomey, 77, passed away at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2009, at home, surrounded by his family. Bruce was the loving husband of Shirley M. (Billet) Toomey, to whom he was married 53 years. Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Monday, September 7, 2009 (Labor Day), from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, P.C., 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., with his pastor, the Rev. Howard Edmondson, officiating. Interment will follow at Christ United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jacobus. Mr. Toomey was born August 11, 1932, and was the son of the late Louella (Witmer) and Curvin Toomey. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He worked for York Stone and Supply Co. for over 35 years prior to retiring. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but cherished the time spent with his family. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his daughter, Christine Kurtz and her husband, John of Mechanicsburg; his son, Michael Toomey of York; his grandchildren, Cantrell Lau, Jessica Tatar, Nicole Gussard, Zachary Toomey, and Skylar Toomey; and his two great-granddaughters, Reagan Gussard and Elyse Tatar. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Toomey; his sister, Susan Shaffer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Delores Naylor.
