Sheila Irvine Obituary

YORK Sheila Rae Irvine, 65, entered into rest on Saturday, February 25, 2012. She was born to the late George and Kathryn (Scalia) Irvine in Altoona, on October 21, 1946. She was a strong woman who always stood up for what she believed in. Since childhood, Sheila presented a strong defense for people she saw as disabled, in need, or hurt. She took care of others who were less fortunate then her. Sheila worked as a newspaper reporter for the York Dispatch, Harrisburg Patriot and the Florida Times-Union; also an editor for the Shorelines Magazine. During her career, she had interviewed many well-known public figures such as, Fred Rogers, David Newell, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush and General Jacob Devers. Sheila leaves to cherish her memory a son, Andrew I. Kohr; a daughter-in-law, Kori Kohr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Kohr. Services will be private. Boulding Mortuary, Inc., York, is handling arrangements.

Sheila was my sisters mother in law. Our family will always be better because she was a member of it. Your memory will never leave us Sheila.

In a business known for its unforgettable characters, Sheila was the real deal. ?During the late 1970s, she was a welcoming presence in the nightside newsroom of the York Dispatch's old iron-front building on East Philadelphia Street. Sheila was upbeat and jovial, generously serving up a hint or more of sarcasm, and was known for her tenacity and verve. She was a friend.

A strong woman, indeed. Too many years have passed since we both worked the night shift in the Dispatch newsroom, but I have nothing but fond memories of Shiela and Don. My condolences to the family....

I had the pleasure of getting to know Sheila through The Exchange and then I met her in person. She was a fascinating and extremely intelligent woman. She will be missed.
