James A. "Jim" Hill

Zanesville: James A. "Jim" Hill, 90 of Zanesville, died 1:35 PM Friday, March 15, 2013 at his residence following a short illness. He was born Saturday, July 8, 1922 in Zanesville the son of Henry Hill and Edith (Norris) Hill. He married Wilma J. (Earley) Hill who preceded him in death on Monday, January 27, 1992.

James served his country with the United States Army during World War II. He received the European-African-Meddle Eastern Theater Ribbon, a Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal and American Theater Ribbon. James retired from Armco Steel following 27 years of service. He was loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who cared greatly for his family.

James is survived by two daughters: Linda Lee Hill of the home and Tonya Hill-Johnson of Panama, FL; one son: Donald E. (Linda) Prim of Zanesville two grandchildren: Carmen Lee Barnett of the home and Malcolm (Nichole) Smith of Chicago; one great grandchildren Bradleigh Haven.-Smith of Chicago; a special niece Veronica James of Chicago and a special daughter-in-law: Eva M. Hill of Chesapeake, VA; one nephew: William "Bill" (Fran) Harris and one great nephew: Wayne Harris both of Zanesville and a second cousin: Florence Peyton-Fields of Zanesville.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his wife: Wilma J. Hill who died Jan. 27, 1992; one daughter: Nancy D. Smith; one son: James "Butch" Hill; four sisters: Roxie Hill, Delma Farrar, Myrltie Norman and Helen Thompson and one brother: Raymond Hill

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 Pm, today, March 19, at the Hillis Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue were funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday with Rev. Terry F. Newman officiating. James will be laid to rest nest to his beloved wife in Woodlawn Cemetery with VFW post 1058 conducting Full Military Honors. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care and his two caregivers: Shirley Williams and Bonnie Brown for the care and love they gave James.
