Joe and Becky Racz Naples, FL

Yesterday

I´ve known Mrs. Kirmaier for over 50 years. Having met her when I car pooled to Norwalk State Technical College with her son Michael in 1975. My wife Becky and I moved to Naples, FL in December 2014 and Anne had her snowbird retreat about 10 miles from our Naples home. She asked me to call her "Anne" many times since 2014 but I told her "Mrs. Kirmaier, for 40+ years I have always referred to you as that and to change to "Anne" would be very difficult if not impossible for me to pull off. Once in a while I would do it just for her and she was so so grateful I broke the habit of calling her Mrs. Kirmaier. However, 80% or more of the time when we would get together in Naples I´d still use the formal address. Oh well like they say old habits are hard to break. But to see her absolutely "light up" when I called her "Anne" was indeed priceless. Becky and I grew to love her more and more each day and there were certain days we would absolutely make it a point to take her out to eat, go back to her home, play some scrabble and just reminisce about the old times and rejoice we had the pleasure of spending quality time with and truly getting to know and love her like our own mothers. A few times we would pick her up and bring her to our community Treviso Bay in Naples which she absolutely enjoyed and voiced her happiness each and every visit. She is and will always be a big part of our lives and for that we are the most blessed people on earth. "Anne" (Mrs. Kirmaier) was such a good friend and she taught both Becky and I so much about living in Germany, the hardships and happiness she had the pleasure of by simply living there under less than ideal conditions. She is still with us and that fact brings a smile to our faces just talking about the things we did with her. Oh, we all (Anne, my wife Becky and our youngest son Joey and myself) once went to a Miami Marlins Major League Baseball (MLB) game in Miami on a Sunday afternoon. After the game driving home to Naples on Interstate 75, also known as "Alligator Alley" developed a quickly deflating rear passenger tire cruising along at 70+ miles per hour! We had to slow down pretty darn fast to safely stop on the shoulder of the road. Thank goodness I had one of those small spare tires which I fixed. Anne even helped me get the job done! Just one of the many classic unique experiences we had in the 10+ years of truly getting to know her. What an awesome woman and she is missed dearly by us all. Thank you Anne for all you did for us. Absolutely priceless memories. Joe and Becky Racz
