I was an HPE student of hers but was not very talented in sports. I was talented in gymnastics and dance. She left me in charge of this class one time as she was gone for a week. I remember feeling very honored by her for getting to do this. I went on to teach 5 classes of dance at Austin High school in El Paso, Texas from 1970-72.

Sue Gunter was one of the most influencial coaches that I had ever met or had the opportunity to learn from. I got into education and Physical Education for the same reason as she did. I strive daily to be the type of person she would be proud of. I am sorry I am just writing but did not hear of her passing until tonight. I watched LSU basketball hoping they would win the title for you that you strived for your teams to achieve. No title can hold a candle to the hope and education you gave every student or student- athlete who crossed paths with you. Rest in peace and thank you for everything. I am a better person because of your teaching at SFA.

The year and place: 1962 at MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN. Sue Gunter was a young professor, just starting out. The course was Adapted Physical Education. Coach Gunter made the class fun and enjoyable. Even that many years ago, we students sensed her greatness! This was one amazing lady who changed lives! Rest in peace, Coach!

I have attended so many basketball camps over the years (8 to be exact) where Coach Gunter would be there, hands on - treating us like we were one of her star players. I treasure all of those memories - even the ones when she said my free throw "sucked". I am so proud that my daughter would experience the same thing from Coach Gunter. She was one of a kind. The family is in our prayers. Geaux Tigers!!

Since 1998 I have shared a part of Sue with the LSU Lady Tigers. In 1999 I started attending her basketball camps, was a ball girl at the games, and a member of the junior fast break club. Any time we met, she always had encouraging words for me. Her thoughts and memories will remain with me always, and she will always be in my heart. Love you Sue

It is still so new & all we see is the empty space, but that is not how it is in the landscape of the heart. There, there is no empty space & she still laughs & grapples with ideas & plans & nods wisely with each of us in turn. We are proud to have known her. We are proud to have called her friend.

We will always love you and never forget you Sue!

I never had the opportunity to meet the Coach, and I only made 1 game while she was coaching, but I have always admired her Charisma, her ambition to not only win, but to play fundemental Basketball. Sue Gunter was a tremendous asset to the University of LSU. She will be missed, and Pokey...I know you lost more than a friend, but our prayers are with you during this time of sorrow. I know that with the legacy of Sue Gunter, she will always be there with you, guiding you throughout your career as a Head Coach, and I also know that you will go farther for Women's Basketball because you will use your gift that was handed down by your friend, Mentor, and Coach and be very successful. May God Bless you Pokey and all your Players (past and present) to get through this time in your life.
