Clare Sabatini Obituary
The Jeffries & Keates Funeral Home says Clare Sabatini died Friday at her home. No cause of Sabatini's death has been given. Her family hasn't released her age.
Sabatini and her husband gained national attention from their eminent domain dispute with New Jersey casino overseers, who decided their restaurant property was needed for expansion of the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino.
"Doonesbury" creator Garry Trudeau depicted the dispute in a series of 1997 comic strips and sent the original drawings to Sabatini, who thanked him.
The Sabatinis eventually sold the restaurant they'd operated for 40 years to Trump for more than $2 million.
Through a spokeswoman Trump called Sabatini "a wonderful lady."

I am sorry to hear of Mrs. Sabatini's passing away. I grew up in italian restaurants in Pennsylvania, and admired the courage of her conviction to fight for her family and business. She was an inspiration for me in law school. My condolences and prayers to the entire family

Anna, twenty years ago John and I walked into your restaurant and met your mom and dad . We were new to the produce business and trying to build a clientele. Your mom and dad fed us for free and told us to stop by the next day ...with our first produce order....and for the next ten years we stopped by....shared stories, ate meatballs, and delivered produce... years later you and I would work side by side at Siracusa and your mom would stop in just to say hi and eat lunch with everyone....good memories....you will always be my "BESTES OF FRIENDS....I just know Clare and John are sharing some good ole stories together...and smiling down on us...I love you so much...Linda

We met the Sabatinis one evening while we were in AC for a day or 2 - and I was impressed by them both. My husband was a Rotarian, and I am a Lion - both of us have been president of our clubs. I connected with her and her Italian origin and work ethics - ( my parents met here in the US but were born in Italy) and admire her achievments. Mrs. S, as our family called her, was my Mother In Law. She was a very gracious and generous lady who was beloved by all who met her.

Dear Mr. S., Anna, Charles, Louie, Michael, and Stephen (and theirs); We are devastated to hear the news of Mrs. S's passing. Our family adored her. Though we have not kept in touch as we should have, our thoughts of her were often. We have always wished all of you The BEST. Clare was a very SPECIAL lady! It would take me all day to mention the wealth of contributions she brought to our lives!... especially Shelly's. There was nothing she wouldn't do for Shelly. Years ago, I purposly patronized the restaurant on a regular basis to support your Mom and Dad. I've told her story to many of my friends over the years. Besides being great people, the food was excellant. My prayers will add her name to them.

It was an honor to have known Mrs. Sabatini, quite a lady. From knowing her as my classmate's mom, and then a teammate's mom, then as the players' mom (when I coached) ...I could go on....Mrs. Sabatini was an example of how good a Mom could be.
