William Rusher came to speak at Del Mar College, Corpus Christi, Texas probably in the seventies.the auditorium was full ..After his presentation he answered a few question. An irritating person in the balcony began a long ranting statement. I was embarrassed for Mr. Rusher and was about to take action when my husband said," He will handle the heckler". At that time the ranter paused and Mr. Rusher looked up at him and said," I couldn't have said it better myself ,next question". We admired him greatly.

William Rusher and my father (W.Clark Self) were first cousins. I grew up knowing him as Uncle Bill. When dad died, he stepped forth to become my mentor, offering advice and encouragement for several decades. He was, and always will be, my hero. He taught me fine dining, fine wines, fine cigars, and how to enter and exit confrontation as the victor. He was buried yesterday under a springtime Kansas sun in our family plot. It seems fitting for him to rest in such fine peace.Thank you, Uncle Bill! You are a giant! I will miss you forever. Bill C Self

While he had no children of his own, he had a plethora of Godchildren. He was the perfect avuncular personage and introduced uncounted people to right thinking, right dining, and the finer things in life!
