John Souza Obituary
Souza died Sunday, daughter Martha confirmed to the U.S. Soccer Federation on Tuesday.
The Fall River, Mass., native made 16 appearances for the national team from 1947-54, scoring his only two goals in consecutive games against Mexico and Cuba in September 1949.
Souza and his 1950 World Cup teammates were inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1976.
Souza served in the U.S. Navy in World War II aboard a ship in the South Pacific.
He's scheduled to be buried April 13 in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Dear Souza Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved. There are never any right words to express how deeply sad I am for the pain your family is enduring at this difficult time.
Although I did not have the honor and pleasure of knowing him, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, I am sincerely thankful for his valiant service in defense of our rights and freedom.
His commitment to family, friends, our community, and to serving our great nation leaves a wonderful legacy. May the love and the wonderful memories you shared with him help you when you need it most. He will never be forgotten, and your family will be remembered in my prayers.

My thoughts and prayer goes out to the Souza's family and friends in their time of grief. My father, Willy Silvia played with Clarkie with the Ponta Delgada club. My dad passed away in 95, so out of respect, I will be attending the on the 13th. Growing up, he always talked highly of Clarkie. Eddie Sousa's son will be attending as well.

Psalms 90:10 states, "In themselves the days of our years are seventy years, and if because of special mightiness that are eighty years." Although he lived a long life this does not relieve the pain that is felt by his love ones.
