Micayla Medek Obituary
Medek was "Cayla" to her family and friends. She was 23 years old and juggling classes at Aurora Community College with a job at a Subway sandwich shop, said her aunt Jenny Zakovich, 57, of South Milwaukee, Wis.
"She didn't know what she wanted to do," Zakovich said. "I think her plans were to finish community college and go into a better paying job — probably in the computer field."
An ardent Green Bay Packers fan, Medek, who lived in the Denver suburb of Westminster, would plan her schedule around watching Packers games with her sister and father.
"It was probably just like going to church every Sunday," Zakovich said.
Zakovich said she was planning to look for tickets to a Packers game so her brother could surprise Medek and her sister.
Medek was an independent-minded and sweet girl who rarely asked her family for anything, Zakovich said.
"She was one who wouldn't hurt anybody. She was a very loving person. This shouldn't have happened to somebody like her."

This hard for me to say new her from CCA I used to work there I was custodian I met her in late January of 2012 it was late and I thought was the only one on the floor she came out of the class room and we both scared each other so I told her who I was and I work here and then we ran into each other again a while later so I introduced my self to her and from there we became buddy's when ever it was always smiles laughs she would tell me how class was going and I would tell her about my day at work she always smiled acknowledge me when saw me or visa versa I rember the last day I saw her and this hurts I was in the west quad and we saw each other it was her last day we talked in the hall she was excited about break she said to have fun enjoy myself this break i.told her to have fun she's aid I will my friend and I will tell you about it when I get back I said ok I walked her half way to the doors she turned around waved bye see later my friend that was the last time I saw her micayla I miss my friend to here family my condolences I miss my friend I go to CCA to visit the plaq every year and I will every year

You are in my thoughts again Cayla. I am still struggling with the thought that you are truly gone. I just can't wrap my head around this, it doesn't seem real. So many broken hearts are left behind. Our prayers are with your family. I only know of Micayla through my wife who as a customer met Micayla and was impressed with her when Micayla helped out in the Franktown store. While it is immensely difficult to find peace and understanding so soon after this unspeakable evil done to her and all of the others, we as believers know that God works ALL things to His Glory and Purpose. Macayla was loved by a lot of us here at the Anschutz Medical Campus. I just wanted you to know that and all of her family is being prayed for and I know that God will give you the strength to endure the pain of your loss. We are also in pain with you. You should have seen the people that she worked with on Friday. When I went over to get some ice cream, they were all working but they all looked like zombies - they were in Shock and so sad.

I went to school with Micayla, although I did not know her so personally, every time I saw her she seemed like such a nice girl, quiet, but always with a smile on her face. My condolences go out to her family and friends. She will truly be missed, and regardless of whether our Hinkley community knew her well or not, she is family, she is a Thunderbird and I'm glad that we can all come together in a time like this.
