Marie T. Medek passed away peacefully at her home in Waterloo, SC, on May 29, 2024. She was 65 years old.
Born on July 12, 1958 to Gordon and Geraldine Bushong, Marie lived in Mellen, WI, for 52 years, where she worked at Louisiana-Pacific, KRM Cablevision, Superior Kilns, and Northland Foods. In 1981, she married Jeff Barnum, and together they had one daughter, Kaelea. Marie and Jeff were married for 28 years, until his passing in 2010.
Marie was a dedicated mother, who often balanced multiple jobs to ensure her daughter received a college education. Her vivacious personality and great sense of humor made her a beloved friend to many- the kind of friend who would always leave you with good memories and great stories to tell later.
In time, Marie found love again and married Stephen Medek. They relocated to Virginia and eventually settled in Waterloo, SC, where they made their lakefront home into a beautiful sanctuary. Together, they worked on various home improvement projects, including painting, tiling, and landscaping.
Marie's zest for life was evident in her many hobbies and interests over the years. She was a skilled cook, knitter, and quilter. She loved being outdoors and enjoyed camping and gardening. She had a vegetable garden in Mellen for many years and later joined the Old Ivy Garden Club in Virginia.
She had a passion for reading, filling several bookshelves with her collection. She was also a gifted storyteller, and made friends wherever she went, including overseas.
Marie will be deeply missed by many, but especially by her husband, Steve Medek, her daughter, Kaelea (Paul) Tan, and her grandsons, Tobias and Lucas.
She was preceded in death by her beloved first husband, parents, and sister, Jayne.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Mellen, WI. Interment will immediately follow at Cayuga Union Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ashland and Mellen, WI.
