Yesterday, I received my Vanderbilt Magazine, Winter, 2018, and read of the 12/01/2017, passing of Perry Wallace. To his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched, I am saddened for your loss. May his memory be for a blessing.
We did not know each other, but I was a Vanderbilt nursing student from 1967-1971. I thoroughly enjoyed Perry Walkace's prowess on the basketball court. Perry, thank you for the memories!

Perry Wallace was my absolute favorite professor in law school. He was smart, kind, and humble. Whenever I face adversity in my life ...I think of him. He made me a better student, lawyer and person. I am so sad that he is no longer in our living world. But, he will live in my thoughts and heart forever. RIP Professor Wallace. You will be missed.

Saddened as I am by Perry's passing; I am gladdened by the privilege to have been a friend to and fellow-traveler with him during those inhospitable times at Vanderbilt during the late '60s and early '70s. He defined the term "trailblazer". My sincerest sympathies are extended to his family.

To the family I am so sorry for the loss of your dear love one. I know how painful not having someone who has been in your life not to be there anymore. For Mr. Wallace to have gone through all those types of injustices as a youth is a travesty . When Mr. Wallace should have been having fun as a youth he was fighting off ignorance. How thankful we are to know that our Heavenly Father did not teach us to hate our fellow man because of the color of our skin. "At this Peter began to speak and he said: "Now I truly understand that God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him." Acts 10:34 and 35. May Mr. Wallace sleep in peace.

Perry was the nicest opponent I ever played against. High School or college. I once had a break-away dunk during a game (Cameron vrs Pearl 1966), nxt thing I knew, Perry had me pinned to the backboard. I said," Perry, you should have let me have that". He said, "I'm sorry Johnny, scouts are looking"

So very sorry to learn of the loss of such an forgiving man ,in the face of racism it takes a strong minded man to resist the insults of weak individuals. Perry proved that it can be accomplished while he got the job done . May the family and others always remember his example and copy them.

What an inspirational story. Here's a man that had to face adversity all his life from a youth to an older age man.
You know God was watching the whole thing from day one, he's seen your struggle , the oppression, the persecution.
Things were never supposed to be this way. This was not his original purpose. Therefore as loving as he is, he promises to soon completely eliminate all types of wickedness as well as all types of sicknesses on a grand scale, worldwide! Instead he's going to fill the earth with happy, healthy, peaceful people forever! (Isa 37:10,11 & Isa 33:24).

Darryl Bentson MTSU 66-70 Played against him three times our freshman year such a smooth and talented player. Remembered when I was guarding Art Welhoerter and Ken Riley was guarding Perry. The ball came into Perry. As Art took me to the wing from the paint , Perry went around Art's screen and dunked it. As I turned to help defend him I literally saw the bottoms of his Converse all-stars at my crouched eye level. I never forgot that moment. I never let Ken Riley forget it either. Two great Legends will never be forgotten by me.

In 1967-68, at Vanderbilt where I had come South to play football, Perry Wallace offered me shelter from the storm of Southern bigotry and racist hatred that I suddenly unleashed in a still savage land. A land where many viewed me as a traitor to my own white race for committing the "Jim Crow sin" of miscegenation. How does one human being thank another human being for being so decent and kind? My sincerest condolences to family, friends and kindred spirits of all races and persuasions. RIP Perry Wallace. Thank you for your contributions to the human race.

My condolences to the Wallace Family. In 1979-80 as a student at GWU, I was fortunate enough to be a teammate of Perry's on an intramural basketball team. We won the GW Intramural Tournament and went on to play other DC area schools in a tournament at the University of Maryland. Perry was much more than a great basketball player--wise, kind, thoughtful, determined--are just a few of the adjectives that come to mind. A good, good man. It was an honor to be his teammate and an honor to know him.

Thank you for a life well lived. In 1970 Perry Wallace took time to talk with other students who were entering Vanderbilt (as well as George Peabody). He admonished us to finish first and get the degrees we had come for, first. His words would prove to be lasting, and resoundingly, true.
