I worked at Starbucks and the best part of my day was Rocky. The nicest man ever. “If my ring (Super Bowl ring) fits you can keep it.” Didn’t fit. But you were the nicest guy in the room always.

Hello, my name is Jeff Olive. I live in Mt. Marion, New York. I met "Rocky" when he opened a "Mr. Bagels" store with Stu and Hal in the Kings Mall in the Town of Ulster (Kingston, New York) in the summer of 1975. I remember him because Hal and Stu were looking for a grand opening hoping that Rocky could get Joe Namath to show up as Rocky was on the 1969 New York Jets Super Bowl Team. I was attending a local community college at the time and was looking for a summer job, I was 21. I had applied with an application but didn't hear back. So, one evening while the store was still being prepped for the opening I stopped there to see about getting a job. All three of them were there and either Stu or Hal told me they didn't need anymore help. Rocky overheard this and asked me what was up and I told him how much I needed to earn money. He told Hal and Stu to hire me because he was impressed with my actually coming there to see them. I saw him a couple of other times when the store was open when he stopped by to see how things were going and he regaled us with hilarious antics that he and his Jets teammates pulled off when not in uniform. For some reason I had a flashback and remembered a fellow named Rocky that gave me a break when I needed one and saw that he passed away which I am sorry to see. Funny thing is I only knew him as "Rocky", not Paul Rochester so I had to do some sleuthing to find out. I hope that someone will see this and tell his family that he was a really good guy. Thanks Rocky!!!

I used to work at a coffee shop that Rocky would come into almost everyday. I still remember. A venti nonfat-no foam latte (decaf because his wife got onto him about his caffeine intake lol). So simple, but it was an honor to make it for him. His smile and kind demeanor made it worth every nasty and rude customer who came through the door. During this time I was going through a massive depression and struggling to make ends meet financially, but Rocky took my focus off that everytime he came in. Even if it was for a moment. He was a beacon of hope for me. He made me laugh and smile. The pride I felt serving Rocky his coffee did not come from his great accomplishments (although they are to be celebrated) but that this man was genuinely good. I think about him everyday. I wish I could hug you Rocky one more time. Thank you for making a lasting impression on my life. I love you like you were my own family.

Rocky used to bring his van through my car wash (Beaches in Jax Beach) in the 90s. He was a great guy who loved to tell me stories about Joe Namath and Mickey Mantle and other sports luminaries from NY in the 60s. One time Rocky brought Don Maynard by the car wash so I could get Don’s autograph. Another time he spoke with one of the Jags staff and scored me tickets to the Jags/Chiefs game.
After I left the car wash and moved on to my professional career I never saw Rocky again. But he made a great impression on my life with his generosity. RIP Rocky I will never forget you.

Paul was a genuine human being who taught me a lot about maturing into a man when I was in my early twenties. He was partners with my brother in the mid seventies in a group of bagel stores in upstate N.Y. where I was employed. I always think about him and am sorry that I did not stay in touch. Condolences to his family.

My years of knowing Rocky were few, but enjoyed his stories and history in the AFL/NFL. I loved taking him to Jags football games and he was always cheerful and kind to those that recognized him. He was a great neighbor and privileged to have been able to call him a friend and neighbor. God Bless

Jets and AFL stalwart, who started on that great and underrated (by some so-called experts, but not by people in the know) Super Bowl winning Jets' team/defense. Having played in every one of the AFL's seasons is a noteworthy, and very cool, accomplishment and historical fact.
You gave it your all, Paul; making key contributions for championship teams, and in the flourishing process of that wonderful and highly entertaining league! Rest in Peace.
