I just revisited old memories of our son being diagnosed with Kawasaki syndrome by an incredibly talented nurse at Group Health /Seattle. He is in his 30's now. He became very ill at 3-1/2 (incredibly healthy, physically athletic young one) and we thought it was a terrible cold, flu or infection invasion. Quite a few trips to the clinic. Finally, at one visit, where his swollen mouth and swollen hands and feet were obvious - she said, "I have a possible theory and cause. I have seen this recently. (turns out a wave of this hit the Seattle area) I was just researching Kawasaki Syndrome. Let's get on with checking for this." Turns out - that was it! And he was hospitalized and given the aspirin and immunogobulin treatments. They monitored his heart for a few years - treadmill, etc. He is one of the most active and global travelling young people we know. We are forever in debt to and thankful for Dr. Kawasaki and his work. I hope his family sees this and knows how special he was to so many.
