Elgin Baylor is the real G.O.A.T. If I could have the ability of anyone who ever lived, it would be the ability to play basketball like ELGIN BAYLOR. Thanks for the memories Elgin. R.I.P.

Elgin, my going to Seattle University was a coincidence my becoming your teammate and friend and participating in the 1958 NCAA championship game was an act of God since then I have been counting my blessings, getting to know you was one of my most pleasant experiences in college especially your sense of humor. Our separation has limited our personal contact, but I cherish your friendship through the years. You have already made me feel like a friend on and off the court. The game of basketball is much bigger now with the highlighted stars, but, there has never been any player that can equal the wide range of talent displayed by Elgin Baylor. My condolences to his wife Elaine and family.

Our condolences to Elaine, family and friends of Elgin. R.I.P.
So many memories, most all of them like yesterday.
My first memory of Elgin was when he visited our campus
the spring of 1955. We had heard of his great play at College
of Idaho and that they were ceasing play there. An alum wisely brought
him to Seattle. I was finishing baseball practice when coach Al Brightman
told us he was playing at the gym. A few of us hurried to watch.
He was truly shockingly unbelievable playing against a few of our varsity players.
Afterwards visiting with coach Al and the players he showed his fun loving personality
with all. A couple weeks later Coach told us that Elgin was coming to be a Chieftain.
Our immediate thoughts were "We can win it all"!!
In September of 1955 Elgin arrived bringing with him Frank Saunders and Lloyd Murphy
two of his teammates from Spingarn High School of Washington DC. The city of Seattle
would get to see his greatness up real close for three full years!
The NBA found it out! Immediately!! God bless you Elgin!
Blessings Elaine, to you and all of the Baylor family.

To the family, many, many friends, and fans to one of the greatest forward who ever played this game. May you find comfort in your wealth of fond memories together with Mr. Elgin Baylor. May the God of comfort bless your grieving hearts with strength, loving kindness and peace as the world copes with the loss of Mr. Elgin Baylor. We will never forget that he led a team that had been in last place to the NBA Finals, and he won the NBA Rookie of the Year award, what a tremendous goal and accomplishment.

Elgin, You made it possible for me to be who I am today. Thank you. You took me under your wing and took me to Seattle U with you. I have enjoyed every moment of playing with you on the playgrounds of Washington D.C., at Spingarn High School, and at Seattle University. Being your room mate, plus being on the 1958 NCAA Final Four runner-up team with you, and having the honor of being your best man at your wedding were the best days of my life. I have always said that you were the best basketball player ever and my thoughts have not changed. Many people did not know you, but thank God that I did. If they read your book "Hang Time", then maybe they could get a small glimpse. To me you were the BEST PERSON that I have ever known. Your basketball speaks for it self. RIP, my dearest friend. Condolences to your family. Saunders

My wife Jo and I were blessed to know Elgin for many years. We worked together with the Clippers for 22 seasons. We played golf and tennis together. We traveled to Japan, China, Mexico City and Russia together. We celebrated Clipper wins and shared remorse over their losses. We knew and loved Elaine and daughter Krystal. Both Jo and I are better people for having known this wonderful man. His love for his wife served as an inspiration for us all. RIP dear Elgin.

He was a great man and a good friend in his New Orleans Jazz days. I worked as a statistician for the team and I played on a CAA team with him and several other stars like Red Robbins and Hot Rod Huntley. I told him I had a friend who I wanted to introduce him to and he joked, "Bring her around". I said she is an accomplished lawyer and an Orleans Parish Juvenile Judge. You will have to pick her up, take her to dinner and see if she likes you. I told Elaine Cunningham that I want her to meet a friend of mine, Elgin Baylor. She said, WHO? I said perfect. They met and were married and she said he was the love of her life. Condolences to you Elaine.

When I was a young basketball player, Elgin was my hero and I wore #22. Later on, I had the good fortune to associate with him a few times and found him to be friendly, welcoming, and a true gentleman. He then became even more of a hero for me. Prayers and thoughts are with all of you.

Elgin paved the way for athletic marvels like Dr. J, Dominique Wilkins and Michael Jordan. He was waaaay ahead of his time as a player. As great as he was on the court, he was even Better off of it. He and Elaine attended our wedding and our retirement ceremony in 2019. He was a great friend and truly one of a kind. I will miss him every day for the rest of my life.
