I'm just a "regular" long time fan of Mark missing him and his many great public service contributions and takes. In this seminal waypoint in politics (Trump convictions) reminds us of those whose insightful public discorses helped pave the way. So many of us miss you Mark!

My husband and I continue to miss Mark´s commentary every Friday on PBS news, along with his good natured repartee with David Brooks...
Most of all we miss his humorous take on the weekly news, at a time when humor is badly needed and sadly lacking! We send our best wishes to Mark´s family as we continue to remember him fondly.

Sorry for commenting late, but he was friends with my father growing up and my Dad loved listening to him. He agreed with every word. I remember emailing Mark about my Dads death and he replied kindly.

I waited every week until the Friday PBS NewsHour when I could enjoy
Mark´s take on the news of that week.
Mark´s take on the news of that week. He always made me smile and often laugh out loud at what was going on in politics in Washington. Mark made me feel that life is truly worth living fully every day, In this my 85th year... I will continue to miss him for the rest of my life, as I know all his family members will for their lifetimes.

Our hearts go out to his family and close friends. Mark was a welcome guest in on home on Friday nights for over 30 years. His warmth, humor, love of politics and his kindness were always a comfort. A liberal Catholic, he fought the good fight and kept the faith.

My late husband and I watched many years of PBS on Fridays to listen to Mark Shields. He was so intelligent, so reasonable, so able to make us understand so many political issue of so many years.
I am very very sad to know he has died. I wish we had his views of the current political situation.

Looked forward to Mark’s Friday night discussions with David Brooks on the NewsHour, always polite, intelligent and witty. He helped me make sense of the past week’s political happenings and always admired his love and faith in our country. Especially loved seeing him at the ice cream shop in Dennis on Cape Cod in the summer.

Mark Shields, you kept the faith. Yours and our political system. You reminded us that politics is an honorable profession when we listen and learn from one another.
I wish I were up there as you describe the landscape of our current politics to our old friend John Reilly and Bobby. .

Mark Shields was my favorite political commentator. I looked forward to Friday nights watching “Shields&Brooks” on PBS NewsHour. He was one of the best liberals of our time, having served in the late Robert F.Kennedy’s 1968 campaign. I agreed with him 100%, but also admired his professionalism and respect he demonstrated in his dialogue with conservatives.. He will be missed..

Friday nights watching Mark Shields on PBS Evening News made me a more informed person. I loved Mark´s interaction with David Brooks and others sitting with him. Friday was never the same after Mark retired. May Mark rest peacefully and may his family and friends find comfort in happy memories. A kind and compassionate man.

Sorry to hear of. Marks passing. I knew him growing up in South Weymouth MA we went to grade school together. I knew his parents Bill and Mary as his Dad worked with my Dad at the Dowd Paper Company in Cambridge MA.

As a Bostonian of sorts myself I was always very proud that Mark was as well
He was a great credit to so many in so many more ways than one.

My father worked with Bill Shields at H J Dowd Paper Co. I got to know Bill during my summer job at Dowd. When Bill died, I met Mary Shields, a strong and highly intelligent person. I worked in Michael Harrington's congressional campaign when I was in my senior year at Tufts. I got to know Mark who was with the DNC and worked with the successful Harrington campaign. We celebrated victory together at the King's Grant Inn in Danvers. I was greatly influenced by my interactions with Mark and his parents. I am very sad about his passing. Our world needs more Marl Shields. Please accept my condolences.

I briefly encountered Mr. Shields about 20 years ago on 14th Street, NW, DC. as he was coming out of a hotel. I recognized him, of course, and I told him that I cheered his commentaries on television for years especially his Democratic Party point of views. He was very gracious that I was a fan of his. It was clear that he was a humble, generous and caring person. I am so, so sorry for his untimely passing.
