HERRIN - Curtis D. Pinion, 81, of Herrin passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025, at his home in Herrin.
Curt retired from Brushy Creek Coal Mines as an underground roof bolter.
Curt was a member of the Park Avenue Church of God, Herrin where he was choir/music director for many years.
Curt was born Oct. 7, 1943, in Switzer, West Virginia, to James C. and Bessie Mae (Burnham) Pinion.
Curt married Patricia A. Bixler on July 5, 1963, at the Bridgeview Church of God in Bridgeview, Illinois. She survives him at their home in Herrin.
He is also survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Shelley Pinion of Decatur, Alabama, Kevin and Lori Pinion of Herrin and Todd and Jen Pinion of Decatur; seven grandchildren, Amanda Brayfield and husband, Tim, Tiffany Lee and husband, Andrew, Joshua Pinion, Jeremy Pinion and wife, Katie, April Halley and husband, Jarrett, Alexandria Pinion, and Eli Pinion; 10 great-grandchildren, Adrian Pinion, Taylor Pinion, Anaston Lee, McKenna Lee, Will Brayfield, Vincent Brayfield, Vincent Pinion, Nora Halley, Mylah Halley and Evelyn Pinion; sister, Rachel Sharp of Pheonix, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Pinion, Joe Pinion and Paul Pinion; and sisters, Tama Baker and Pearl Stanley.
Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug 14, in Park Avenue Church of God, with the Rev. Rod Joplin and the Rev. Philip Rexing officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will be in Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 204 Halfway Road, Marion, IL 62959; or to Park Avenue Church of God, 2019 N. Park Ave., Herrin, IL 62948; envelopes will be available at the church.
