Johnson, Brent Garry
61, of Avondale, Arizona passed away on February 20, 2017. Brent was born in Mesa, Arizona on February 16, 1956, to Garry Kelwin Johnson and Jane Allred Johnson. He was raised on his family's Ayrshire dairy farm located in Southeast Mesa. Brent graduated from Mesa High School in 1974. From August 1975 to September 1977, Brent served as an LDS missionary in the Boston Massachusetts Mission. Brent graduated from Arizona State University in 1983 with BS in accounting and finance and from Brigham Young University in 1987 with an MBA in accounting. From June 1987 and until his death, Brent worked at Stotz Equipment (formerly known as Arizona Machinery) as an administrative assistant, as controller, and as the CFO. In 1978, Brent and four of his brothers formed the notorious deathrock band Theatre of Ice; releasing six original albums between 1982 and 1986. In 1987, Brent reorganized the band with new members and released another two original albums, two live albums, five compilation albums, and six vinyl EPs. The band, its story, and its music can be found across the Internet, including Wikipedia and YouTube. Brent is survived by his mother, his siblings Chris Johnson, Lyle (Lori) Johnson, John (Shareen) Johnson, Eric (Erin) Johnson, Melissa (Kyle) Amos, and Jason (Alicia) Johnson, and by twenty-six nieces and nephews. Brent is preceded in death by his father, his sibling Mark (Kristen) Johnson, and his nephew Michael Johnson. Services in honor of Brent will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 6655 E. Preston Street, Mesa, Arizona 85215. Visitation with family will begin at 10 a.m. with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Family, friends, fans, colleagues, and the community are welcome to attend.
