May 5 1928-November 20 2005 Dolores Teachenor Denney, 77, died November 20, 2005, after a brief illness, at her home in Crestline, CA, in the loving company of her family. "Dodo" was born May 5, 1928, in Kansas City, MO, to her parents, Lillian and Dix Teachenor; sister, Dorothy; and brother, Dix. She attended Border Star, The Barstow School, University of Kansas, and the University of Arizona. Dodo was a stage, television, and film actress; an avid gardener, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Dodo's husband was the late and wellloved artist, Alan Denney. Dodo is survived by son John, daughter-in-law, Cindy, grandson, Travis, son, Dix, and daughter-in-law, Annick, all of California; niece, Nea Franklin Foltz, her husband, Chris, and two sons, Sam and Jake, of Chagrin Falls, OH; and an extended family of friends. Dodo's acting career began locally with the Barn Players and as 'Marilyn the Witch' on KCMOTV5's "The Witching Hour", she took sojourns to New York where she worked off-Broadway, and to Los Angeles for television and film roles, notably the role of Mrs. Teevee in the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." Dodo returned to Kansas City in 1985 taking occasional roles under the name Nora Denney, at the Missouri Repertory Theater and the Unicorn Theatre. Dodo created beautiful gardens wherever she lived. She was active in both the Greater Kansas City and the St. Joseph Iris Societies. She is a past president of the GKCIS, president and co-founder of the Heartland Hosta and Shade Plant Society, a charter member of the Heartland Peony Society, and an Emeritus Judge for the American Iris Society. Dodo hybridized both an AIS registered iris, "Canyon Orchid." In 1998, Dodo moved to a "log cabin" in the San Bernardino mountains east of Los Angeles to establish a new garden and be close to her two sons. In 2003, her dream came true when she become a grandmother. Dodo is predeceased by her parents, Lil and Dix; sister, Dorothy; brother, Dix; husband, Alan; and lifelong childhood friend, Mrs. C.S. Hanson. Dodo will be remembered and cherished by family, big friends, little friends, colleagues, artists, and gardeners as a woman who loved nature, art, and good humor. We all will miss her.

I feel very fortunate to have known her. Her no-nonsense approach to life was refreshing. She was hugely creative and immensely entertaining (on or off the stage). I shall miss her.

Good lord, she was a great one! No matter the event or reason, going to her house was always fun and informative in oh so many ways. What a joy to have known her. I miss you, Nora.

To Dix and John,

I am so very sorry to hear about Dodo's death. She was always a favorite cousin, and the many plants in my house and garden that came from her continue to remind me of her passion. She was great, great fun. I will miss her.

Nora -- the Dodester -- the Old Woman -- taught me so much as a friend, as my mother onstage, 2nd mother offstage and as a fellow player. Nothing was so serious that it couldn't be looked at with humor and understood with compassion. A good liberal, too. Bless her for that. I will miss her always and a great lump will come into my throat and a great smile will cross my face whenever I think of her.

I was so grateful to be with Nora just before she left us. It has been my good fortune to have her as my friend, and I will miss her all my life. I will always remember the laughs we shared.
