Published by Richmond Times-Dispatch on Apr. 22, 2008.
CLOUGH, Richard "Dick" Arthur, also known as "Rock," of Charlotte, N.C., passed away on April 19, 2008. Born in Andover, Md., he spent his formative years in Teaneck, N.J. After graduating from Brown University, he proudly served as an Officer in the USMC. He enjoyed living in Richmond, where he worked for Virginia Tractor Co. He actively served his community through numerous groups, including the YMCA and the Goochland County Board of Elections. He lived in Charlotte for the past 25 years, where he worked for and retired from Carolina Tractor. An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, bicycling and "The Beach." Among his greatest joys was supporting his sons and later his grandchildren in all of their sport and extra curricular activities. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Debbie; his brother, Gil; his three sons, Max, Dave and Barry; their respective wives, Laura, Beth and Brenda; as well as 10 wonderful grandchildren and a great-grandchild on the way. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 23, at 2 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 1412 Providence Road, in Charlotte, N.C. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th St., Charlotte, N.C. 28204 or The American Cancer Society. T. H. Robertson Funeral Service is serving the family of Mr. Clough.

Dear Clough family, I have many fond memories of Mr. Clough over the years, from the Swan Island Club and branding in Montana in particular. Not to mention many great stories shared by my Dad. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Debbie, Max, Dave, Barry and family,

My childhood in Lower Tuckahoe spent with you guys gave me a solid base to spring into adulthood. It's always a blessing when neighbors turn into family. Rock's smile and warm, loving hugs will always be with me.

Love,
Lisa

Dear Clough's,
Kay and I send our sympathy for your loss. We have fond memories from your tenure in Richmond as all of our boys went through Collegiate Schools as did yours (although a few years ahead of us). It has been my pleasure to work with Dick and Barry within the paper industry and they have always been two of my favorites.
God bless your family,
Jim and Kay Hunter

Dear Cloughs,
I feel as though I am rudderless in this world now that my father and Dick are gone. Dick was my mentor and great friend at Carolina Tractor. I wish peace for you all as you progress through this new chapter in your lives without him.

Debbie, Brenda, Barry, Carson, Cannon and Cole,
I will miss Rock so very much and my heart grieves for you all in the loss of such a wonderful human being. I feel truly blessed to have known that remarkable man -what a great husband, dad, grand-dad and life-loving individual. I have so many fond memories of him, but 2 of the best are the time spent with him in Va. Beach and being called the Food Hitler and that crisp Thanksgiving weekend many years ago trying to keep up (and being left in the dust!) with all the Cloughs on their bikes.

Take care-I love you all.

Dear Clough family:
The memories of a beautiful life were fondly shared with me by Barry, Dick's son. A deeply loyal father and husband to his family and friends. May Debbie, his children, and grandchildren continue to grow In God's grace for eternity.

I send my hugs and love to all the family. Mr. Clough, "Rock", and Debbie raised a beautiful family and their children have successfully mimicked their recipe of family, laughter, joy, fun and friends. There are so many things I'll miss as I hear his voice and he always made me smile. I am thankful for the memories and his friendship and guidance which I will treasure forever.

You always remember those that affected you powerfully - particularly in childhood. The Cloughs, with Mr. Clough "Dickie" and Mrs. Clough "Debbie" at the helm, were among a handful of second parents that we, as a family, vacationed with, played with, ate with, sang with, beached with and generally grew up with. Their family shared without restraint or reserve all the gifts of their lives - and became a part of what will always be my idyllic memory of child- and young adult-hood. I will mourn his passing but remain grateful and comforted by the thought that he remains such a wonderful part of my, and my family's lives.
