Donald Trahan Obituary

CLOVERDALE, CA – Donald H. Trahan passed away on August 29, 2014, at age 84, from leukemia. Don rose from humble origins in rural Vermont, son of a single-mother, who worked as a hairdresser. He received his college degree from the University of Vermont (Burlington), and PhD in mathematics from the University of Nebraska. He taught upper-level mathematics at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst); University of Pennsylvania (Pittsburg), and, for several decades, at the Monterey Naval Post-Graduate School, in Monterey, California. His specialty was "ring theory," which he utilized also during his military service, when he worked at the Pentagon. Don loved hiking, opera, and classical music, and served on the Board of Hidden Valley, a small company devoted to opera and classical music in Carmel Valley, California. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Knapp Trahan; daughter, Jennifer Trahan; and grandchildren, Teddy and Nicole Rashkover. Arrangements are by Fred Young Funeral Home in Cloverdale, 707-894-2540.

Don and Pat were deeply involved in the work and purposes of Hidden Valley Music Seminars. Don's generosity and hard work will be remembered by all of us and his intelligent, soft-spoken sense of humor will also be sorely missed. We send our loving thoughts to his family.
