Fred Jerome Obituary

Fred Duncan Jerome

June 5, 1924 - July 6, 2015

Cary

Fred Duncan Jerome passed away early Monday morning at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, NC. Fred was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many, many people. Known for his sense of humor, giving heart, and many acts of kindness, Fred was a well-liked member of the Glenaire Retirement Community, in Cary, where he and his wife, Martha Moore, have lived since their marriage in 2002.

Fred was raised in Chatham County, was educated at North Carolina State University, and was a lieutenant in the US Navy during World War II. Shortly after his service, he became employed as an engineer at Carolina Power and Light Company, where he later became Head of Transmission Design, Engineering, and Construction. He retired in 1986.

In 1951 Fred was married to Katherine Burnett of New Hanover County, who passed away in 1995. They made their home in Raleigh, NC, for 44 years. They had two daughters, Katherine Jerome Conely (Richard) of Moore County, NC, and Camelia Jerome Muller (Walter) of Gadsden, Alabama.

Fred is survived by his wife Martha Moore, his daughters and sons-in-law, and his brother and sister-in-law Jack and Martha Jerome of Cooleemee, NC. His brother Henry Jerome passed away in 2001.

Fred is also survived by ten grandchildren: John Conely, Daniel Muller, Katie Conely, Joseph Muller, Josiah Conely, Jessica Muller, Rachel Muller Du Plessis (Barend), Sarah Conely, David Muller (Nikki), and Nathan Muller.

He leaves a tremendous legacy and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Well done, good and faithful man – enter into joy and rest.

Services will be held on Friday, July 10th, at 10:00 am, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, Salisbury Street, in Pittsboro, NC. A graveside committal will follow. The family will then receive friends at 3:00 pm at Glenaire Retirement Community on Cornwall Street.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church in Pittsboro, or St Paul's Episcopal Church in Cary

Sorry to hear about your Dad. We were out of town so I didn't see the obituary. I'm sure he will be missed by the family.
