Coach Cathey not only was involved with athletics at DuPont Senior High, but taught a photography class. I gained a love of photography for taking that class. He even had a dark room set up so we could develop our film. He was a great teacher and coach. He was truly a wonderful teacher and mentor to so many! Rest In Peace Coach Cathey.

Coach Frank Cathey was the boys Track coach and the boys assistant basketball coach when I attended DuPont High School from 1970-1974. He was a great encourager and motivator and brought out the best in the players he coached. He took his calling seriously, demanding and rewarding effort. He had a great sense of humor and seemed to really value his friendships with other coaches and teachers. I believe he must have been a fine father, husband, and grandfather because he was such a good and solid person. Because of his stout stature his nickname was Stump. None of us players ever called him that to his face, but he told me at track practice one time he knew that was what some players called him, but he didn't mind. I didn't have much contact with him after I left high school and I pray he enjoyed life and enjoyed his family. I thank God that he was a big part of my life, now over 45 years ago, and that he rests in the arms of his Creator forever in Glory.
