GOLDSMITH--Merwin S. Merwin S. Goldsmith of Man- hattan, a well-respected stage and film actor, died peacefully on January 21, 2019. Merwin was born in Detroit on August 7, 1937, the eldest son of Max and Alice Singer Goldsmith. He had a full life. In addition to a BA from UCLA, Merwin had training at the Bristol Old Vic and at the Liverpool Playhouse in England, and was a contributing member of the Century Association. Merwin is survived by Barbara ParryGoldsmith his wife of 22 years; stepson Jamie Parry of Rhinebeck and granddaughter Sally Parry; sister Barbara Levin of Jerusalem; three brothers: the Hon. Mark Goldsmith, Jonathan Goldsmith, M.D., and Steven Goldsmith all of Michigan; eight nieces and nephews, and nine great-nieces and nephews. Services will be held in the Detroit area. A memorial service will be held in New York at a later date.

My dear fraternity brother at UCLA Merwin was in the production of Cyrano in '58 and stole the show as Montfleury. We had many laughs together which have not been forgotten...don't flave the morning dew- we sang it often Joel Feigenbaum

I had the honor and pleasure of playing in Grand Hotel on Broadway with Merwin. He was a man of great good humor with a generous spirit and big heart. A true gentleman in every sense of the word.

I shall miss my Dad's best and most true friend. His character, decency, wit and good humor will never be seen by humanity again. His gentle kindness and ability to move people was absolute. He was one of the best role models there was and the one friend my Dad had that lasted every day of both their lives. I shall miss him every day of mine.

Merwin played Herman van Daan in Yours, Anne, a musical theatre piece based on Anne Frank's diary, by Michael Cohen and me, with humor and humanity. He was also a lovely man. I am so sorry to hear of his death. Thank you, Merwin for Putti.

Merwin was my friend and mentor. When I was 17, he told me I belonged in NYC, and he was right. He worked with me to make my dreams a reality and I never forgot his sofa, his kindness or his generosity. Very few people loved to laugh quite like Merwin, and I shall miss him more than I can articulate. Rest in peace.
