Don was born on January 23, 1957 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. While in high school, he enjoyed playing football as well as acting in school plays. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976. After teaching Art at Lake Mills Elementary School, he returned to university and earned a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. Mary and Don moved to Vancouver where Don taught at the University of British Columbia until 2015, in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy. His scholarly interests were varied, and included the

use of technology in the classroom, digital literacies, on-line learning, the connections between art and ecology, and sustainability. Don had a passion for golf and played at many of the local golf courses. The highlight of his life was when he traveled to Scotland on 2015 and golfed at the St. Andrews Golf Course.

Don Krug was one of the best teachers I ever had. He was passionate about teaching and learning, toward building social equity and sustainability into every relationship. His work introduced me to research and writing that continues to shape my concepts of life and relationships. He had a great sense of humour that eased the sometimes difficult processes of learning with digital tech in the classroom. I am very sorry that he is gone. My condolences to Mary, and little Bella. I know he is deeply missed.

I am very sorry to hear that Don has passed away. I worked with him in Art Education as President of SRAE. I had a lot of respect for Don and liked him very much. He always greeted me at conferences with a smile on his face. Please accept my condolences for his passing. I will remember him in a very positive manner and know that he is on a new journey.

Don and I got to know each other as neighbours and friends through our shared Laurel hedge and half hour weekly walks. His dry sense of humour made those steps together easy and most pleasant. Now I walk alone.

Don and I played a fair bit of golf over the last few years; we played in various events with Zone 4, the winter Peanut Trail, and with the Fraserview Men's GolfClub. Don and I always enjoyed each other's company; I will really miss him. I have a picture of us at last year's Fraserview Senior Club Championship, that I would like to make a larger copy and frame it for Mary.
