Eric ULRICHSEN Obituary

ULRICHSEN Eric A "Pipe Daddy" 82, of Mt. Laurel, died Jan. 9 at Pennsylvania Hospital after a year-long battle against head and neck cancer. A builder of both wooden boats and custom homes who was happiest on the water, Eric was born in Keyport, N.J., to Andreas Ulrichsen and the former Ann Pedersen, Danish immigrants. He grew up in the world of boat building and, after surviving polio as a boy, delivered boats by water along the East Coast as a teenager. After serving in the Coast Guard in New York Harbor, he joined the family business and continued after it was sold to Henry Luhrs. In 1969, he began a two-year stint as a construction executive in Manhattan before moving with his family to Moorestown. In Moorestown, he formed a custom home building business, Ulrichsen and Knauss. In retirement, Eric worked as a construction consultant until his death. He is survived by daughters Marianne Gambardello and Erin Ulrichsen, stepdaughter Johanna McChesney, sister Barbara Ulrichsen, six grandchildren, companion Ellen Holmes Patterson, and former wife, Carol Ulrichsen. He was pre-deceased by his second wife, Renee Ulrichsen, and companion, Jackie Callahan. The family hopes to hold a memorial service at a later time.
