Laura Straight Obituary

Laura Straight, age 58, of Spring Lake, went home to her Lord on September 28, 2025. She was born October 17, 1966, in Saginaw to William and Dace (Lusis) Diffin. On March 23, 1990 she married Tracy Straight in Grand Ledge, Michigan.

Laura cherished her Latvian heritage that she learned from her loving grandparents, Omam and Opap. From them, she learned about God and the traditions of faith that shaped her life. She proudly served her country as a Seaman in the United States Coast Guard, stationed in Seattle, where she carried the same spirit of service that would define her throughout life.

Laura's greatest joy and purpose came from being a wife, a mother, and an Omie (grandmother). She deeply treasured time spent with her husband, her two sons and their families, and especially with her granddaughters. She often said that when her children and grandchildren were visiting, "it was heaven on earth" – those moments brought life and beauty to even her hardest days.

Laura loved music and sang about everything. Gardening, animals, cooking – these were not mere hobbies, but expressions of her love. Cooking, in particular, was her way of caring for others. Feeding someone was an act of love and connection in her eyes.

Her faith in God was the anchor of her life. Even as she faced cancer, she trusted Him – believing He had a purpose for her extending days. Serving in the care ministry at her church was a calling she embraced; she considered it an honor to minister to others. In many ways, her illness drew her closer to Christ, deepening her walk with Him.

Laura is survived by her loving husband, Tracy; two sons: Jordan (fiancé, Adriane Benoit) Straight; Owen (Brittney) Straight; her granddaughters, Charlie, and Hadley; father, William Diffin; siblings; sister, Terri Pollack; brother, William Diffin Jr. She was preceded in death by her mother, Dace.

A celebration of life will be held October 8, 2025, 11 a.m. at All Shores Wesleyan Church. Please sign the family's online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.

Yesterday

She got this zebra lovey for my daughter zelda, her great niece, and it is her ultimate comfort item. She never sleeps or goes anywhere without it. I think of her every time I look at it. She was incredibly thoughtful and I´m incredibly lucky to have had an aunt like her. Sending all my love with the heaviest heart.
