Terence Bell Obituary

Terence Everett Bell

Terence Everett Bell, an educator, artist, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on June 19, 2020 in Dallas, Oregon.

Terry was born on June 3, 1943 in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois to Everett E. Bell and D. Wanda McKay Bell. He grew up in the Olympia area and Portland, and lived most of his adult life in Salem. He and Karon Lee Lowen were married on December 29, 1963. He earned a Bachelor's degree in English from Seattle Pacific College and a Master's degree in counseling from Oregon College of Education.

Terry's career as an educator included serving as an English Teacher and Guidance Counselor at Salem Academy, and as a Financial Aid Director and Grant Writer at George Fox University. He will be remembered by the many students and colleagues whose lives he influenced.

Terry created paintings, drawings, balsa/driftwood townscapes, and wood carvings that are enjoyed in the homes of many family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gail Bell Garner. Family members remembering Terry include his wife, Karon Bell, children, Lori Bell (with spouse David Gawlinski) and Jeffrey Bell (with spouse Andrea Ruben Bell), and four grandsons, Drew and Elliot Gawlinski and Ethan and Seth Bell. Among the family's favorite memories are of him reading aloud from Narnia and Dr. Seuss books, using different voices for each character.

A celebration of Terry's life will be held at a later date. Anyone interested in being notified about the memorial, please send email to

Terry was a dear friend who was loved by myself and Don. Terry and Don were high school and college friends. Later I was introduced to the Bells. We spent many vacations together. These were some of the best times of our lives. Terry will be missed and we send lots of love to Karon.
