At the 9/11 Memorial in June of 2018 with my daughter Heather, I took a photo of her by the bronze parapet. When I walked closer and looked at the name by her hand, it was “Renee A. May and her unborn child.” Chills ran over me because my daughter Heather was 3 months pregnant. I felt this was providential, a message from above. Her baby boy was born in December.
Thank you, Renee, for your sacrifice, two lives and their futures.

Renee, I remember you very well from my time as an intern at the Walters Art Museum. I remember sitting in on the Docent Training classes with you and seeing you taking notes and listening attentively to the speakers. I also remember seeing you in the galleries giving your tours - something you looked like you really enjoyed. Although we never really spoke, you always gave me a warm, friendly smile and said "hello." Thinking of you and your family - may they continue to find happiness and love in their lives today.

The 7th Anniversary has come and gone. We had a dedication for the 9/11 Memorial in Grapvine on 7-4-2008. I thought of you on my Maui trip last week, Renee. I flew with Shirley Hall and told her about you and why I had not visited any of the sights around the country. I was impressed with the speech she wrote and the results of the sculpture. I wish I could have been there to represent you but I had a trip. You would be proud of the volunteers who have worked so hard to make the monument come to fruition. I made a contribution and it is in your memory. I am ready to visit the sights, I will go to Ground Zero, the Pentagon and to Grapvine. Shirley has helped me make the first move, I think seeing the pictures and reading her speech did it for me. I know it will be tough but nothing compared to the bravery you exemplified 9-11-2001. As we leave the month of September for 2008, I will not forget you, ever. I think of you each time I take off on a trip and ask God to have the angels go with me. You are one of those I know is with me.
Blessings to your family, I sure hope they get to read these entries and know how much you meant to all of us. You are my SHERO!

Renee was my mother's best friend. My mom is Thais Schurder! Some one mentioned them always being together and loving Rod Stewart and it made me smile. She was the most warm hearted, sweet person. I would always get so excited when she would come visit! She is forever in our hearts. My mom tells me fun storys about her all the time. I look up to her, and wish that I can some day turn out to be half as good of a person as she was. I didnt get to know you for too long, but the time you spent in my life I will never forget. Please put my mother in your prayers.

I went to El Toro High School with Renee, and although we didn't know each other well, I clearly remember her sweet, quiet way. She was always with her buddy, Thais, and LOVED Rod Stewart. I can remember she and Thais lining up on the P.E. blacktop covered in Rod Stewart buttons and T-shirts. When I saw the names on the list of victims 6 years ago, I thought that must be a different Renee May. I was so sad to hear it was not.

This weekend my daughter, Sarah, is going to the El Toro High School Cheer Camp in San Diego. They always have a theme for their rooms. This year Sarah asked if she could do a tribute to the victims of 9.11.2001 with a special emphasis on Renee May - my friend from high school. As I looked up at her, I was so very thankful that my child was healthy, alive and loving and at the same time thought of Renee's family and their loss. I hope they know that Renee's legacy lives on even in the children of those lives she touched along the pathway of her life.

Today is the 6 month anniversary. I am sitting at my computer in my office, the same place I did on that day. So today I am doing something different. I looked up someone who is the same age as me, exactly. And then I read everything on line about her. Wow, she was really well loved. I am sorry for your loss, we still feel it, here in Canada too, your war is our war, your loss is our loss, we are strong because you are, and believe in peace and brotherhood, the same as you do. Your neighbor to the north, sheds two tears for every one of yours.

May warm memories of times shared with Renee lighten the sorrow in your hearts. Our hearts cry with you in your great loss of Renee.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
